The purpose of this study is to provide basic data that can serve as a guideline for understanding and interpreting the current state of Korean street dance by examining the inflow and development of Locking dance in Korea. As research methods, interviews with three Locking experts were conducted and each interviewee’s responses were thematically categorized for the analysis of the study. As a result, Locking dance was introduced to Korean people firstly through video materials such as movies, broadcasts, and dance videos from abroad, and later by inviting well-known dancers from different countries to Korean dance competitions as judges. The introduction to Locking dance in Korean society motivated some Korean dancers to invite, various Locking dancers from across the world to Korea for dance workshops, which gave those who learned Locking dance only by watching videos the opportunity to experience the “original” Locking style. Since then, Locking dance in Korea has been more developed through the steady exchanges between Korea dancers and dancers from other countries. Currently, the number of Locking classes, workshops, and events in Korea has drastically increased.

본 연구는 락킹댄스의 한국 유입과 전개 양상을 고찰함으로써 한국 스트릿 댄스의 현주 소를 이해하고, 해석하는데 지침이 될 수 있는 기초자료를 제공하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 연구 방법으로 총 세 명의 전문가들을 선정하여 반 구조화된 질문지를 통해 전문가인터뷰를 실시하였으며 응답 결과를 질문의 항목별로 범주화하여 주제 분석 및 검토하였다. 그 결과 락킹댄스의 한국 유입은 주로 해외의 영화와 방송, 댄스비디오 같은 영상물을 통해 유입되었고, 이후 국내 대회에 해외 댄서들을 심사위원으로 초청하여 교류가 시작 되면서 본격적으로 유입되었음을 알 수 있다. 이를 시작으로 여러 해외 댄서들을 한국에 워크숍으로 초청하여 오로지 영상물을 보고 춤을 배우던 국내 댄서들이 오리지널 락킹을 접할 수 있게 된 것이다. 그 후 락킹댄스는 국내외 댄서들과의 꾸준한 교류와 워크숍으로 인한 국내 락킹 수업 확대, 락킹댄스 관련 행사 증대 등을 통해 보다 더 발전한 것으로 종합할 수 있다.
