The purpose of this study is to explore the migration experience of "trailing wife" who followed their husbands overseas and to clarify its meaning and essence. The participants were five married women who followed their husbands abroad, had been living there for less than three years, and did not have a fixed period of residency, and were not familiar with the local language. Data were collected through in art-based interview, and the analysis was conducted using Giorgi's phenomenological data analysis method. As a result, 191 units of meaning, 40 units of summarized meaning, 19 sub-constituent elements, and 6 constituent elements were derived. The results of this study are as follows. The "trailing wife" in this study decided to migrate based on family priorities. They experienced a decline in their emotional and behavioral states in the host country and found it difficult to live an autonomous life due to a lack of language proficiency. They feel the need for a stable confidant with whom they can share their hearts, and experience bleak and uneasy emotions about their own future. However, they made various efforts to adapt to their environment, reflected more deeply on themselves, and even took creative challenges. Finally, based on these research findings, we discussed the migration decisions, identities, and psychosocial support of "trailing wife".

본 연구는 남편을 따라 해외로 이주한 '따라가는 아내'의 이주 경험을 탐구하여 그 의미와 본질을 밝히는 것에 목적이 있다. 연구 참여자들은 남편을 따라 해외로 이주한 기혼 여성이며, 현지에 거주한지 3년 이하이고 앞으로 거주할 기간이 정해지 있지 않으며, 현지의 언어에 익숙 하지 않은 5명으로 구성되었다. 자료는 미술작업을 기반으로 한 심층 면담을 통해 수집되었고, 자료의 분석은 Giorgi의 현상학 자료 분석 방법을 적용하여 이루어졌다. 이에 따라 191개의 의 미단위, 40개의 의미단위요약, 19개의 하위구성요소, 6개의 구성요소가 도출되었다. 본 연구에 서 도출된 결과는 다음과 같다. 본 연구의 ‘따라가는 아내’는 자신보다 가족을 우선하여 이주를 결정하였다. 그들은 이주국에서 마음과 행동이 위축되는 것을 경험하며, 현지 언어 능력의 부 족으로 주체적인 삶을 살기 어렵다. 마음을 나눌 수 있는 안정적인 대상이 필요함을 느끼며, 자신의 미래에 대해 막막하고 불안한 감정을 경험한다. 하지만 그들은 자신이 처한 환경에 적 응하고자 다양한 노력을 하며, 자신에 대해 보다 깊이 숙고하게 되고, 창의적인 도전을 하기도 한다. 마지막으로 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 ‘따라가는 아내’의 이주 결정, 정체성, 심리사회 적 지원에 관하여 논하였다.
