Background for This study poses a problem which actual development of the self-driving cars fall into romantic and detached way. To give a detailed description of the self-driving car in its technology, legal and social states, and industrial vision in relation to the smart city’s, some constraints would be deduced for readjusting. Methods For this description, I have identified technological, social and industrial characteristics and problems of the self driving cars from various literature concerned and cases studies. These characteristics and problems of the self driving cars would be explained on the base of digital traffic control system, given by much bigger plan of smart city. As the smart city plan subordinates all of characteristics and problems of the self driving cars, by analogy, it could not develop its own technical solutions, but in relation with the city’s demands. Results are Firstly, the self-driving car, in its digital nature, cannot be independently designed and operated from traffic control system digitalized in priority by the city. Secondly, it do not deposit guarantees both safety and gain, on the contrary to some romantic ideas and minds of experts and industrials. Thirdly, these incompatibilities between the digital cars and the smart city are insoluble without thinking of compact urban form, a kind of cell city. As a Conclusion, The self driving car should be designed and operated by subordinating to actual procedure of smart cities’s every plan, as new urban form in the future.

본 연구는 자율 주행차의 발전 과정이 독자적인 동 시에 이상적이라는 문제를 제기한다. 디지털적 상호기 능성에 따라 자율 주행차의 기술적, 법적-사회적, 산업 적 면모를 기술하고, 이를 스마트도시의 교통정보 시스 템과 연관하여 설명한다. 이로써 자율 주행차의 발전 과정에 어떤 부분이 장애로 작용하는지를 제시하여 발 전의 방향성을 재고한다. 연구 방법은 문헌 연구에 사례를 제시하는 실증적 논리를 취한다. 자율자동차의 발전 과정에 따른 사회 적, 법적, 산업적 장애가 아직은 논의 선상에 모두 떠 올라 있지 않기 때문에, 논란의 주요 부분을 가설적으 로 추출하여 원인을 추론한다. 그 결과 첫째, 자율 주행차에 장착된 기기는 차량 자체의 통합적인 시스템뿐 아니라 차량 외부의 교통 정 보시스템 안에서 통제된다. 둘째, 수익성이 보장되지 않는다. 셋째, 자율 주행차와 스마트도시 사이에 기술 적, 법적-사회적 그리고 산업적 차원에서 불투명한 상 호기능성이 존재한다. 이런 장애요인이 극복되려면 규 격화된 도시 공간 안에서만 자율 주행차가 효용성을 지 닌다는 태도가 필요하다. 결론은 작은 도시의 중앙통제 시스템 안에 자율 주 행차의 미래가 있다. 자율 주행차에 대한 기술적인 접 근은 일반 도시에서는 구현이 불가능하기 때문에 스마 트도시에 맞추어 갈 수밖에 없다.
