As obsessed with numerical expansion, many problems occurred in early church growth movement. Orlando Costas suggested holistic concept of church growth for a better church growth movement. However, his holistic theory seems not to be applied much as a tool for evaluating church growth in practice. In this regard, this study attempts to analyze the growth of a local church named ‘Beauty and Cross Church,’ based on the holistic theory suggested by Costas. Based on literature review and the interview with Rev. Dong Seub Oh, this paper analyzes the growth of ‘Beauty and Cross Church.’ The result suggests several insights on holistic church growth. First, concept of church growth needs to expand to the network of churches beyond a local congregation. Second, church growth needs to be evaluated by influence beyond numbers. Third, the field of church growth needs to expand to online beyond offline. Fourth, the wholeness of church growth movements should be aimed. Fifth, church growth and missional church can have overlapping points. This paper hopes that these insights will contribute to developing holistic church growth theory.

숫자적 성장에 집착했던 초기 교회성장운동에는 많은 문제점이 있었 다. 그래서 올란도 코스타스는 통전적 교회성장이론을 제시하여 더 나은 교회성장운동을 모색했다. 하지만 현장에서는 그의 통전적 교회성장이론 이 교회성장을 평가하는 도구로 구체적으로 적용되지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 코스타스의 통전적 교회성장이론으로 ‘미와 십자가 교회’라는 한 지역교회의 성장을 분석하고자 시도했다. 코스타스의 통전적 교회성장이 론을 다루는 문헌을 정리한 후, ‘미와 십자가 교회’와 관련된 문헌과 오동섭 목사와의 면담에서 얻은 정보에 근거하여 ‘미와 십자가 교회’의 성장을 분 석했다. 그 분석의 결과로부터 통전적 교회성장이론에 관한 몇 가지 통찰 을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 교회성장의 개념을 개교회를 넘어서 공교회 네트 워크로 확장해야 한다. 둘째, 교회성장을 평가하기 위해서는 숫자를 넘어 영향력을 평가해야 한다. 셋째, 교회성장의 영역을 오프라인을 넘어서 온 라인으로 확장해야 한다. 넷째, 교회성장운동의 신구(新舊) 패러다임의 통 전성을 지향해야 한다. 다섯째, 교회성장이론과 선교적 교회론이 만날 수 있는 부분이 있다. 위의 통찰이 통전적 교회성장이론의 발전에 도움이 되 기를 바란다.
