In this study, 5「Introduction to Police Science」books issued by the Korean National Police University(KNPU) were used to diagnose the process of change in police science research in Korea, to find out major issues, and to identify future implications. Through previous research, the main criteria necessary for textbook analysis were selected, and the 1982, 1991, 1993, 1998, and 2009 editions of introductory books were collected and analyzed through the Research Information Sharing Service(RISS). The main resarch findings are as follows. First, in the 1982 edition, the KNPU was listed as the author without any special editor. In the 1991 and 1993 editions, Hwang and four others were listed as coauthors, and in the 1998 edition, Lee was marked alone. In the 2009 edition, Kang and seven others were again listed as coauthors. From the 1998 edition, academic backgrounds are also included in the process of authorship, and it can be seen the the character of the book as a general textbook has been strengthened. Second, the outline system of 1982 edition lasted until 1993, and a mid-range systemic change appeared in the process of publishing the 1998 and 2009 editions. Police concept, history, management, and practices were the basic contents, and police law and criminology discussions are added or deleted depending on the author, and the proportioins among them were also very different. The background of this differece can be evaluated as reflecting the author’s position on the research subject of police science. It can be confirmed that the 「Introduction to Police Science」books issued by the KNPU played an important role in the development of police science as an independent academic system in Korea, but at the same time left various issues related to the subject and scope of police science.

이 연구에서는 경찰대학에서 편찬한 경찰학개론을 대상으로 한국 경찰학 연구의 변 천과정을 진단하고 주요 쟁점들을 식별한 후, 향후 시사점을 확인하고자 하였다. 선행 연구를 통해 교과서 분석의 중요성과 주요 기준을 확인하고, 학술연구정보서비스 (RISS)를 통해 1982년판, 1991년판, 1993년판, 1998년판, 그리고 2009년판 경찰학개론을 수집해 분석해 보았다. 주요연구결과는다음과같다. 첫째, 저자관련사항이다. 1982년 판에서는 특별한 편저자 표기 없이 경찰대학이 발행주체이자 저자로 표기되어 있었다. 1991년판과 1993년판에서는 황지연 외 4인이 공동저자로 표기되었고, 1998년판에는 이 운주 단독으로 표기되었다. 2009년판에서는 다시 강용길 외 7인이 공동 편저자로 표기 되었다. 1998년판부터는 저자 표기과정에서 학문적 배경 등도 함께 기재되어 일반 교과 서로서의 성격이 강화되는 모습도 확인할 수 있다. 둘째, 경찰학개론 교과서 체계는 초 판 체계가 1993년판까지 지속되었고, 1998년판과 2009년판 발행 과정에서 중범위 수준 의 체계 변화가 나타났다. 경찰개념, 역사‧비교론, 경찰관리론, 실무(활동)론 등을 기본으로 경찰(행정)법, 범죄학 논의가 저자에 따라 추가 또는 삭제되었고, 이들 사이의 비 중도 큰 차이를 보이고 있다. 이러한 차이의 배경으로는 경찰학의 연구대상에 대한 저 자의 입장이 반영된 것으로 평가할 수 있다. 경찰대학 경찰학개론 교과서는 한국에서 경찰학이 독립된 학문체계로 탄생하는데 중요한 역할을 담당했지만 동시에 경찰학의 대상과 범위 등과 관련, 다양한 쟁점도 함께 남겨두었음을 확인할 수 있다.
