The Effects of Social Disaster Indirect Trauma Experience on Suicidal Behavior in University Students - the Dual Mediating Effects of Smartphone Addiction and Alcohol Addiction -

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of social disaster indirect trauma experience on suicidal behavior in order to understand the suicidal behavior of university students, and to analyze the parallel mediating effects of smartphone and alcohol addiction in the relationship. For this purpose, in this study, the questionnaire data of 540 university students belonging to a four-year university located in K city, Jeonbuk were used for the final analysis. As a result of the analysis, First, university students’ experience of indirect social disaster trauma had a significant effect on suicidal behavior. Second, it was found that smartphone addiction has a mediating effect on the path of social disaster indirect trauma experience to suicidal behavior. In other words, it was confirmed that the experience of social disaster indirect trauma not only directly increased the level of suicidal behavior, but also indirectly increased the experience of suicidal behavior by increasing the level of smartphone addiction problems. On the other hand, alcohol addiction did not mediate between the two variables. Based on the results of this study, the prevention of suicidal behavior of university students and the intervention plan in terms of practical and policy aspects were discussed.
