This study aims to examine the limitations and problems that arise in the design and implementation of a competency-based curriculum, find the direction of curriculum improvement in connection with IB MYP components, and present improvement measures. As a result of the study, a competency-connected IB unit template was developed based on the contents of democratic citizenship education, which is most related to real life problems. Literature analysis and case development research methods were carried out to achieve the purpose of the study. Literature analysis showed that despite the fact that the competency-based curriculum is highly emphasized in the direction of educational reform in a changed society, the content system or action plan is insufficient to implement in the actual school field. Based on this literature analysis, I tried to find a way to implement more effective competency education in the components inherent in IB MYP. Next, a new IB MYP unit template containing competency elements was developed based on the connection between IB MYP and the competency-based curriculum using case development research methods. Finally, important points that may occur in the process of developing these units were presented. It is hoped that the development direction proposed in this study will be a more advanced improvement plan that can help improve public education.

본 연구는 역량중심 교육과정의 설계 및 구현 과정에서 나타나고 있는 한계점을 살 펴보고, IB MYP 구성요소와의 연계성을 기반으로 교육과정적 개선의 방향을 탐색하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 결과로서 실제 삶의 문제와 가장 관련이 있는 민주시민교육 내 용을 중심으로 역량 연계 IB 유닛 템플릿을 개발하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 문헌분석과 사례 개발 연구 방법을 활용하였다. 문헌분석을 통해 역량중심 교육과정이 교육개혁의 방향으로 매우 강조되고 있음에도 불구하고 교육과정 문서상 내용 체계와 실천 방안 등에 대한 안내가 부족하여 학교 현장에서의 구현에 한계를 나타내고 있음 을 밝혔다. 이러한 문헌분석을 토대로 보다 실효적인 역량교육을 구현할 수 있는 방안 을 IB MYP에 내재된 구성요소에서 찾고자 하였다. IB MYP와 역량중심 교육과정의 특 징을 비교하여 양자의 연계성을 지식과 기능을 전이할 수 있는 능력을 강조, 과정중심 평가를 지향, 맥락에 기반한 실천성 등 세 가지로 파악하였다. 다음으로 사례 개발 연 구 방법을 활용하여 IB MYP와 역량중심 교육과정의 연계성에 기반한 새로운 IB MYP 유닛 템플릿을 개발하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 유닛 개발 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 유 의점을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 실제 개발한 단원을 수업에 적용하여 그 효과를 검토, 최종적으로 개발한 것이 아니라 단원 개발의 이론적 근거에 초점을 둔 개념적 수준 차원의 모형을 추구하였다.
