The study was conducted on the ethnic identity of Myanmar refugees who have not acquired Korean citizenship and have been recognized as refugees after moving to Korea due the participating in the Myanmar democratization movement. The research had explored the background of refugee migration to escape their mother country Myanmar, what kind of changes and experiences do they have as a recognized refugee go against leaving the mother country, and why the dream of a recognized refugee was not to acquire Korean nationality but to return to the mother country. It is to shed new light on a broader understanding of recognized refugees and a different life. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four recognized refugees from Myanmar. According to the results of the study we can see unwanted migration, stable struggle for democratization as a refugee, both sides of stability and hardship, a future that cannot be ended in a foreign country, struggle for democratization by one's own efforts, support for the motherland international interest, in the motherlandand returning to the motherland without abandoning the dream. It is also the reason why refugees must set their life for future by obtaining refugee recognition in the refugee application country and acquiring nationality for a stable life. However, their lives are different from all other recognized refugees in that they fight for democratization of their home country and return to the day when it becomes stable. The results, first, participants in refugee recognition are living in anticipation of the day when they will return to their home country, which has achieved democratization by pushing out the military dictatorship of their home country, rather than taking macro steps such as their home country's politics, religion, and ethnicity. Second, even though they have been recognized as refugees for a long time, they have not acquired a stable nationality. Third, is the belief that homecoming means that one day as a refugee, a person must return to their home country, not necessarily living in their country of residence. We should not concern idea that we do not need refugees and cause damage to refugees. For refugees who do not give up their dreams and hopes and live to return to their motherland, we must provide as deep understanding and consideration as possible within the current refugee recognition system so that they can reunite with their families and friends in their motherland.

본 연구는 미얀마 민주화 운동 참여한 이후 한국으로 이주하여 난민으로 인정받은 한국 국적 미취득 미얀마 난민의 민족정체성을 연구하는 것이다. 모국 미얀마를 벗어 나고자 했던 난민이주의 배경은 어떤 이유였으며, 난민 인정자로 사는 삶이 모국을 떠 난 것에 반하여 어떠한 변화와 경험을 하였고 이후 난민 인정자의 꿈이 한국 국적 취득 이 아니고 왜 모국으로 회귀인지에 대해 탐색하였다. 난민 인정자에 대한 폭넓은 이해 와 또 다른 삶에 대해 재조명해보고자 함이다. 미얀마 난민 인정자 4인의 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 원하지 않은 이주, 난민으로 안정적인 민 주화 투쟁, 안정과 고난의 양면성, 타국에서 끝낼 수 없는 미래, 자력에 의한 민주화 투 쟁과 모국 지원, 모국의 국제적 관심, 꿈을 버리지 않는 모국 회귀로 나타났다. 난민의 최우선 목적은 안정적인 삶을 위하여 난민 신청국에서 난민 인정을 받고 국적 취득을 함으로써 자신들의 미래와 삶의 새로운 토대가 되어 살아가야 하는 이유이기도 하다. 하지만 이들의 삶은 모국의 민주화를 위해 투쟁하고 안정되는 날 돌아간다는 의미는 무릇 다른 난민 인정자들과는 다르다는 것이다. 이러한 결과를 통해 난민 인정 연구 참 여자들은 첫째, 모국의 정치, 종교, 민족이라는 거시적 행보보다는 모국의 군부독재를 밀어내고 오로지 민주화를 이룬 모국으로 돌아갈 날을 기약하며 살고 있다. 둘째, 오랜 난민 인정 생활을 하면서도 안정적인 국적 취득을 하지 않고 있다. 셋째, 난민으로서 거주국에 꼭 살아야 한다는 것이 아닌 언젠가는 다시 모국으로 돌아가야 한다는 모국 회귀라는 신념이다. 난민들이라고 해서 우리에게 필요하지 않은 존재이고 피해를 준다 는 단편적인 생각에 우려를 가지게 된다. 이들의 꿈과 희망을 버리지 않고 모국으로 돌 아가겠다며 살아가는 난민들에 대해 모국의 가족과 친구들을 다시 재회할 수 있도록 현재의 난민 인정제도 안에서만이라도 깊은 이해와 배려를 제공해야 할 것이다.
