Athletic performance of various sports disciplines is a complex and multifactorial trait influencing multiple genetic and environmental factors. Although many researchers are conducting a series of studies to search for useful genetic markers that affect athletic performance of various sports disciplines, the genetic predisposition that affects athletic performance for many sporting disciplines has not yet been identified until now. Thus, this study was to perform a serial genetic screening test by case-control type using single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) of three candidate genes including rs35767(C/T) polymorphism in insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF1) gene, rs1800169(G/A) polymorphism in ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF) gene and rs2010963(C/G) polymorphism in vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGFA) gene to explore the genetic predispositions affecting athletic performance in throwing discipline. A total of 20 Korean throwers and 40 controls were recruited in this case-control type genetic association study, and a serial of SNP detections were performed by SNaPshot or Taqman methods using total genomic DNA isolated from saliva. Among three SNPs markers, there were significant differences in genotype and allele distributions of rs1800169 polymorphism in CNTF gene between controls and throwers, respectively(p < .05). Therefore, it is likely that this SNP marker may be one of useful genetic markers influencing athletic performance of throwing discipline. Further studies by using other racial or ethnic groups will be required to replicate our positive result beween this SNP marker and athletic performance of throwing discipline.

각종 스포츠 종목의 운동경기력은 다수의 유전적인 요인과 환경적인 요인에 의해 영향을 받는 복잡한 다인자성 형질인 것으로 알려져 왔다. 따라서 많은 연구자들이 여러 스포츠 종목의 운동경기력에 영향을 미치는 유용한 유전자 표지를 탐색하기 위한 일련의 연구를 수행해오고 있지만, 아직까지는 많은 스포츠 종목들에 대해서 운동경기력에 영향을 미치는 유전적인 소인은 규명되어 있지 않은 상태에 있다. 본 연구에서는 육상투척 종목의 운동경기력에 영향을 미치는 유전적인 소인을 탐색하기 위한 목적으로, insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF1) 유전자의 rs35767(C/T) 다형성, ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF) 유전자의 rs1800169(G/A) 다형성 및 vascular endothelial growth factor A(VEGFA) 유전자의 rs2010963(C/G) 다형성을 포함하는 3 종류의 후보유전자(candidate genes)에 존재하는 단일염기 변이 다형성 (single nucleotide polymorphisms, SNPs)을 사용한 일련의 사례-대조 유형의 유전적인 선별검사를 수행하였다. 총 20명의 육상투척 선수군과 40명의 대조군이 본 사례-대조에 의한 유전적인 관련성 연구의 피험자로 참여하였으며, 일련 의 SNP 검출은 타액으로부터 total genomic DNA를 분리한 후에 이를 사용한 SNaPshot이나 Taqman 방법에 의해 각 후보유전자들을 분석하였다. 연구된 3 종류의 SNPs 중에서, CNTF 유전자의 rs1800169 다형성을 구성하는 유전자형 및 대립유전자 분포가 대조군과 투척군 사이에서 유의미한 차이를 나타내어(p < .05), 본 SNP 표지가 투척 종목의 운동경기력에 유의미한 영향을 미칠 가능성이 있는 유전자 표지의 일종으로 인정된다. 하지만, 본 SNP 표지와 투척 종목의 운동경기력 간의 유의미한 양의 상관관계에 대한 재현성을 입증하기 위해서는, 다른 인종이나 민족집단을 대상으 로 하는 후속연구를 수행하는 일이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
