It is not unfamiliar to think of a mother when taking care of someone. The warmth, generosity, and dedication of the word, mother serve as the basic foundation for a living being to lead one’s life. The total dependence of the child creates total care, and the result of total care is sometimes accompanied by the pain of 'destroying' the mother’s body, the care-giver. This paper does not illuminate 'motherhood' through the lens on a gender essentialist. Rather, it is urged to look at the customary form and maternal practice of motherhood as universal ethics beyond gender distinction. In other words, care has traces of maternity, but it is not applicable only to women, and the basis for this begins with the recognition that human beings are inherently dependent. Theological institutionalization of care is a healing process that embodies the kingdom of God. ‘The living human web’ asserted by Miller-McLemore recognizes that care is related to politics, economy, and society beyond the private level, and expands care to the public realm. The model of caring as the Body of the World is a story in which humans, nature, and life are organically connected to each other, mutually driven to each other, and bound to each other, suffering and being cared together in the world that is the body of God. For this, it should be remembered that is a sensitive conscious reflection of the imbalance of power that can be embedded in care relationships, and a shared perception that humans need dependent objects such as mothers. Therefore, public institutionalization of care is the most meaningful labor as well as the most just work to break away from the illusions thrown by autonomous subjects, not to return differences to discrimination, and to follow the traces of Jesus who came as a human for the vulnerable.

누군가를 돌본다고 할 때 엄마의 모습이 연상되는 것은 낯설지 않다. 엄마라는 단 어가 주는 포근함과 너른 마음, 헌신은 한 생명이 삶을 영위하는 기초적인 토대가 된 다. 아이의 전적인 의존은 전적인 돌봄을 만들어내고, 전적인 돌봄의 결과는 양육자인 엄마의 몸을 ‘삭게 하는’ 고통을 동반하기도 한다. 이 논문은 ‘모성’을 젠더 본질주의 적인 관점에서 조명한 것이 아니다. 모성이 갖고 있는 관습적인 형태와 모성적 습관 (maternal practice)을 젠더의 구분을 넘어 보편윤리로 조망할 것을 촉구한다. 즉 돌봄 은 모성의 흔적을 지니고 있으나 여성에게만 해당하는 것은 아니며, 이의 근거는 인 간이 태생적으로 의존적인 존재라는 것을 인정하는 것으로부터 시작한다. 신학적으로 돌봄을 제도화하는 것은 하나님 나라를 구현하는 치유의 과정이다. 밀러-맥리모어가 이야기한 ‘The living human web’은 돌봄이 사적인 차원을 넘어 정치, 경제, 사회와 연관됨을 인식하고 돌봄을 공적인 영역으로 확대하는 것이다. 돌봄을 세계의 몸(Body of The World)로 보는 모델은 인간, 자연, 생명이 하나님의 몸인 세계 안에서 서로 유기적으로 연결되어 상호추동하고 상호 결속되어 함께 고통 받고 돌봄 받는 이야기 이다. 이를 위해서 기억해야 하는 것은 돌봄 관계 속에 배태될 수 있는 힘의 불균형을 민감한 의식으로 성찰하는 것과 인간은 엄마와 같은 의존적 대상을 필요로 하며 살아간다는 공유된 인식이다. 따라서 돌봄의 공적 제도화는 자율적 주체가 던진 환 상으로부터 결별하고 차이를 차별로 환원하지 않으며 취약한 자들을 위해 인간으로 오신 예수님의 흔적을 따라가는 가장 유정(有情)한 노동이며 정의로운 작업이다.
