Job is a prominent figure of biblical spirituality who is symbolically elevated in Christian tradition as a faithful sufferer. Amidst their calamities, a faithful and his community of faith compared their sufferings to Job's sufferings, found meaning in their suffering and sought to overcome it. Ezekiel portrays Job as a figure who maintained his righteousness in difficult circumstances, along with Noah and Daniel (Ezekiel 14:14-20). The Epistle of James encourages suffering communities to endure with the patience of Job, experiencing God's mercy and compassion (James 5:11). Pope Gregory the Great (6th century) compared his physical illness to Job's sufferings, seeing a divine purpose in his own pain. Gregory viewed Job as a model for faithful sufferers, saying, "The thirst for contemplating the Creator's face increases as the soul of the righteous is tried in this life." Theologian Gustavo Gutiérrez dedicates his book "On Job: God-Talk and the Suffering of the Innocent" to the people of Ayacucho, who, like Job, suffer unjustly and cry out to God for help. Throughout Christian history, many believers in times of suffering have turned to Job as a model of biblical spirituality and sought to understand the meaning of their afflictions in their relationship with God. The present paper provides a biblical spirituality model that can help Christians facing trials and difficulties reinterpret their suffering and nurture their spirituality by academically studying and modeling the process of Job's spiritual formation. To achieve this goal, the paper proceeds as follows: firstly, it briefly defines what biblical spirituality is, introduces the current state of biblical spirituality research in Korea, and proposes the necessity of studying biblical spirituality models. Secondly, the paper analyzes the process of Job's spiritual formation depicted in the Book of Job and presents it as a biblical spirituality model for faithful individuals undergoing trials. The process of Job's spiritual formation is divided into a cycle of "Orientation," "Disorientation," and "Reorientation." This paper suggests that Job, who hoped to understand and integrate his life in God amid suffering and loss, can serve as a biblical spirituality model for contemporary Christians facing similar challenges.

On Job: God-Talk And The Suffering of the Innocent(욥에 관하여: 하나님-이야기와 무고한 자의 고통) 를 “욥처럼 불의한 고난을 겪으며 생명의 하나님에게 부르짖는 아야쿠초(Ayacucho) 사람들에게” 헌정하고 있다.
