This study starts from the premise that Canaan Believers, a phenomenon of de-religiousness/unchurched in South Korea, are satisfying their spiritual longings and needs outside the church. This study posits that the Canaan Believer phenomenon is not just a temporary alternative to the existing institutional church, but is characterized by the ability to trigger fundamental changes in religious society in opposition to traditional religion and the Christian church, and that it holds a preview of the future religious society. Based on Ahn's research that the Canaan Believers phenomenon is prominent within the Protestant church, this study analyzes the reasons why the Protestant church fails to fulfill the spiritual longings and needs of Canaanites. It explores the characteristics of Protestantism as a modern religion, identifies the historical contributions of Protestantism to modern civilization, and analyzes the contrast of Korean Protestantism's contribution to the process of Korean modernization through the Canaan Believers phenomenon. It analyzes the lack of a missionary/pastoral response to the newly expressed spiritual longings and needs in the postmodern context of Protestantism. This study interprets the modern hunger for spirituality as a apophatic hunger to recover the neglected tradition of protestant spirituality in the Protestant tradition and to integrate and unite it with kataphatic spirituality. Among the Protestant traditions, the Quakers' "inner light" spirituality, which is deeply influenced by the apophatic spirituality tradition, is introduced as the historical foundation of spiritual formation for Canaan believers. Through the confession that God, the Light, and Jesus Christ are present in all things and in every soul, Quaker spirituality developed the Christian mystical tradition. The characteristics of Quaker "inner light" spirituality are analyzed as universality, simplicity, wholeness, and unity, and presented as a basis for Christian spiritual formation that Canaanites can pursue. The universality of light contains the concept that the light of God opens the way for Canaan believers to explore the various pathways found in all things. The simplicity of the light is found in silent worship and a community system without the institution of a pastor. Just as different aspects of truth are revealed through different symbols, images, and ecclesiastical institutions, so the spirituality of the Inner Light, which is revealed within each soul, guides Canaan believers in inner exploration and the practice of spiritual discernment, inviting them to spiritual discipline and growth. Inner Light guides the fragmented and divided modern church and Canaan believers toward a holistic and integrated spiritual life. It provides a valuable spiritual resource for Canaan who aspire to holistic growth and transformation by overcoming the shadows of modern dualistic worldviews, unifying and integrating all areas of life. In doing so, this study seeks to explore the potential for Inner Light spirituality to respond constructively to the spiritual longings of Canaanites and to fulfill the spiritual needs of young Christians today.

본 연구는 한국의 탈종교화 현상인 가나안 신자들이 영적 갈망과 필요를 교회 밖 에서 해소한다는 사실로부터 출발한다. 가나안 신자 현상이 기존 제도권 교회의 일시 적 대안 현상이 아닌, 전통적인 종교와 기독교회에 대항하여 종교사회에 근본적인 변 화를 촉발할 수 있는 특징을 지녔으며, 이는 미래 종교사회를 미리 엿볼 수 있는 가 늠자 역할을 담지하고 있다고 본 연구는 전제한다. 가나안 신자 현상이 개신교 공동 체에서 두드러지며, 교회 내에서도 가나안 신자 현상이 탐구된다는 안창덕의 연구를 기반으로, 개신교회가 가나안 신자의 영적 갈망과 필요를 채우지 못하는 원인을 분석 한다. 개신교가 지닌 근대성이 포스트모던 상황 속에서 새롭게 발현된 영적 갈망과 필요에 부응하지 못한 선교적/목회적 반응의 부재를 가나안 신자 현상으로 분석한다. 본 연구는 현대사회의 영성에 대한 추구가 개신교 전통에서 외면 받았던 무념적 영성 전통을 회복하여 유념적 영성과 통합하고 일치하려는 영적 시도로 해석한다. 개 신교 전통 중에서 무념적 영성 전통에 영향을 깊이 받은 퀘이커의 ‘내면의 빛’ 영성을 가나안 신자들을 위한 영성형성의 역사적 토대로 소개한다. 빛이신 하나님과 예수그 리스도가 만물과 모든 영혼 안에 임재하신다는 고백을 통해 퀘이커 영성은 기독교 신비주의적 전통을 발전시켰다. 퀘이커의 ‘내면의 빛’ 영성이 지닌 특성을 보편성, 단순 성, 전인성과 통합으로 분석하여, 가나안 신자들이 추구할 수 있는 기독교 영성형성의 토대로 제시한다. 빛의 보편성은 가나안 신자에게 하나님의 빛이 만물 가운데서 발견되는 다양한 통 로들을 탐색할 수 있는 길을 열어준다. 빛의 단순성은 침묵으로 드리는 예배와 목회 자 제도 없는 공동체 체계에서 발견된다. 진리의 다양한 측면이 여러 상징과 이미지, 교회제도를 통해 계시되듯이, 각 영혼의 내면에 드러나는 내면의 빛 영성은 가나안 신자들의 내면 탐구와 영적 분별로 안내하여 영적 수련과 성장으로 초대한다. 내면의 빛은 파편화되고 분열된 현대 교회와 가나안 신자들을 전인적이고 통합적인 영성 생 활로 안내한다. 근대의 이분법적 세계관의 그림자를 극복하고, 삶의 모든 영역을 일치 하고 통합하여, 전인적인 성장과 변화를 열망하는 가나안 신자들에게 소중한 영적 자 원을 제공한다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 내면의 빛 영성이, 가나안 신자들의 영적 갈망에 건설적으로 응답하여, 현대 젊은 기독교인들의 영적 필요를 채울 수 있는지 그 가능성을 모색하고자 한다.
