By exploring the convergence between various genres and materials, artists are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in artistic expression and expanding the scope of contemporary artistic discourse. Contemporary craft practitioners have exhibited a discernible tendency towards the convergence of diverse media, manifesting as a syncretic approach to materiality and technique, which has ushered in a new era of creative possibilities. This trend indicates a broader cultural shift towards interdisciplinary modes of inquiry and an emphasis on the hybridization of traditional artistic practices. I seek to enact the media convergence trend in the craft field and propose expanding expression methods in ceramics, reflecting a dedication to interdisciplinary exploration and the hybridization of traditional practices. The research methodology involved categorizing craft trends at fairs between 2019 and 2021 into fusion, non-fusion, and other works. Media convergence was further classified into A-mix (using adhesive materials), C-mix (bonding techniques), and M-mix (material blending). This approach enabled a comprehensive analysis of the diverse creative expressions and techniques employed by contemporary craft practitioners and facilitated a deeper understanding of the trends shaping the field. The fusion of materials, including those previously deemed unsuitable due to durability or permanence concerns, such as textile vinyl, paper, resin, glass, wood, metal, and ceramics, has emerged as a prevalent practice in contemporary craft. Through a detailed analysis of these works, it is apparent that the trend of media convergence in craft is rapidly expanding, leading to new avenues of creative expression and a reimagining of traditional artistic practices. The study yielded several significant conclusions. Firstly, the need for research and establishment of media convergence in the craft field was identified, and the flow of media convergence trends was confirmed through theoretical considerations. Secondly, a comprehensive survey of entries showcased at craft trend fairs revealed a steady increase in the movement of convergence of craft design media. Thirdly, media fusion was most prominent in the ceramic field, as evidenced by the segmentation of media fusion works. Fourthly, media fusion using adhesives was identified as the most active method of fusion. Finally, the study emphasized the importance of continued exploration of the convergence trend of craft design media to facilitate the active expression of works in the ceramic field. This study aims to chart a course toward expanding the scope of ceramic and art language as a dynamic and multifaceted artistic technique that can accurately represent the complexities of modern society and the human experience through the integration of media convergence.

예술가들은 그들의 표현의 영역을 확장하기 위해 재료에 대한 고민과 더불어 다양한 장르 간 융합을 모색하고 탐구해왔다. 이러한 변화로 인해 작가들은 한 가지 재료에 국한하지 않고 다양한 재료를 혼합하여 여러 가지 새로운 표현양식들을 자유롭게 구현하고 있다. 이를 통해 현대 예술의 한 특징으로 매체융합이 자리 잡게 되었고 시대의 환경에 맞춰 다양한 모습으로 변화하며 발전하고 있다. 이를 바탕으로 공예디자인 분야에서 매체융합 트렌드를 확인하고 도자 영역에서의 표현 방식의 확장에 대해 제안하고자 한다. 연구 방법은 2019~2021년도의 공예트렌드페어의 출품작을 융합, 비융합, 기타 작품으로 나누어 조사하고 매체융합 작품을 A-mix(접착 재료를 이용한 접합), C-mix(결구 방식), M-mix(재료 혼합)로 구분하여 매체융합 분류를 진행하였다. 분석된 자료를 바탕으로 매체융합 트렌드를 확인하였고, 현재 대한민국 공예디자인 작가들은 독창적인 작품 세계를 표현하기 위하여 섬유 비닐, 종이 등 견고성이나 영구성이 떨어져 사용하지 않던 재료부터 레진, 유리, 나무, 금속, 도자 등 다양한 재료를 사용하기 시작했다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 도출해 내었다. 첫째, 이론적 고찰을 통해 매체융합 트렌드의 흐름을 확인하고, 공예디자인 분야에서 매체융합에 대한 연구와 정립의 필요성을 발견하였다. 둘째, 공예트렌드페어에 소개된 출품작의 전수조사를 통해 공예 디자인 매체융합 트렌드가 점진적으로 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 셋째, 매체융합 작품 세분화를 통해 도자 분야에서의 매체융합이 가장 높게 나타났다. 넷째, 매체융합 분류를 통해 A-mix(접착 재료를 이용한 접합)를 통한 융합이 가장 활발하게 이루어지고 있음을 확인하였다. 다섯째, 도자 분야의 적극적인 작품 표현을 위해 공예디자인 매체융합 트렌드 흐름의 지속적인 탐구가 필요함을 파악하였다. 이를 토대로 본 연구에서는 향후 매체융합을 통해 현대사회와 인간의 다면성을 나타낼 수 있는 예술적 기법으로 도자, 예술 언어의 범위를 크게 확장 시키는 방향성을 제시하고자 한다.
