This study examined institutional pressures that can affect firms implementation of ESG strategies and investigated sustainable performance that can be created based on them. Based on previous studies, this study specifically linked the normative pressures faced by firms with ESG strategies and proposed hypotheses that include financial and non-financial performance. The population of this study is firms with a total asset size of more than KRW 2 trillion listed on the Korea Exchange (KRX) as of December 2021. A survey was conducted on them, and the hypothesis was verified by applying a PLS structural equation model based on the collected 70 data. As a result of the analysis, it was found that normative pressure on the transition to stakeholder capitalism had a positive effect on financial performance. In addition, the implementation of ESG strategies confirmed a significant mediating effect between normative pressure and sustainable performance. Based on these discussions, the research model presented in this study contributes to current knowledge by filling several gaps in previous studies, and the results of the study have valuable and practical implications for creating competitive advantage as well as sustainable performance for Korean firms.

본 연구는 제도이론을 바탕으로 기업이 ESG(환경, 사회 및 지배구조) 전략을 이행하는데 영향을 줄 수 있는 제도적 압력을 고찰하고 이를 기 반으로 창출할 수 있는 지속가능한 성과를 조사했다. 이를 위해 선행연구를 바탕으로 기업이 직면한 규범적 압력을 ESG 전략과 구체적으로 연 결하고 재무적 성과 및 비재무적 성과를 포함하는 가설을 설정했다. 본 연구의 모집단은 2021년 12월 기준, 한국거래소(KRX)에 상장된 총자산 규모 2조원 이상인 기업이다. 이들을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하고, 수집된 70개의 데이터를 바탕으로 PLS 구조방정식 모형을 적용하여 가설 을 검증했다. 분석 결과, 이해관계자 자본주의 전환에 대한 규범적 압력이 재무적 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것을 발견했다. 또한, ESG 전략 이행은 규범적 압력과 지속가능한 성과 사이에 유의미한 매개효과를 확인했다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 본 연구에서 제시하고 있는 연구모델이 선행연구에 대한 몇가지 격차를 메움으로써 현재 지식에 기여하고, 연구 결과는 기업의 지속가능한 성과 창출뿐만 아니라 경쟁우위 창출에도 가치 있고 실질적인 시사점을 도출했다.
