This study reviewed current situations of home-owned ancient documents in Honam area and future tasks to vitalize those documents. By reviewing the situations of ancient documents, the study confirmed around 50,000 documents via the digital archive, established after 2000. Those ancient documents in a data base comprise 60% owned by a museum or an organization and other 40%, by private homes. As per the age, those produced in 1800s amount to 70%. They are around 600 documents based on the original ownership. Over 40% of the total are composed of documents of a transaction or a family register. To vitalize those ancient documents in Honam area, various activities are needed such as discovering a new owner, collection of the results of those analogue projects proceeded by each organization, and researches on related materials other than ancient documents. Also, it is urgent to integrated digital archives that have already been closed or on the verge of being closed soon due to discontinued projects. This process shall be proceeded by preparing a certain guidance considering the digitization so that the materials can be interconnected. And, developing from previous situations where they showed images and/or annotations, it is needed to provide them in a multi-media form such as web comic, fairy tale and video clip for story-telling.

이 논문은 호남지역 민간 고문서의 현황과 이를 활성화하기 위한 앞으로의 과제를 살펴보았다. 고문서 현황은 2000년 이후에 여러 기관에서 구축한 디지털 아카이브의 탑 재DB를 통해서 약 50,000여 건을 확인할 수 있었다. DB화된 고문서는 박물관 및 기관 소장이 60%, 민간 소장이 40%를 차지한다. 시기적으로는 1800년대에 생산된 문서가 70%를 차지한다. 원소장처를 기준으로 했을 때 약 600여 곳의 문서이다. 매매문서와 호적문서의 비중이 전체 40% 이상을 차지하는데 이는 호남의 특화콘텐츠로서 집중하여 구축하였기 때문이다. 호남지역 고문서의 활성화를 위해서는 신규 소장처 발굴, 각 기관에서 추 진했던 아날로그 사업 결과물 취합, 고문서 외의 연관 자료 조사도 필요하다. 또, 사업 중단으로 인해 이미 폐쇄되었거나 곧 폐쇄될 위험에 처한 디지털 아카이브의 통합이 시급하다. 이 과정은 정보화를 고려하여 일정한 지침을 마련하여 자료들이 서로 연계될 수 있도록 해야 한다. 그리고 예전처럼 고문서의 이미지나 해제를 보여주는 것에서 발전시켜 고 문서를 활용한 웹툰, 동화, 영상과 같은 멀티미디어 형태로 스토리텔링하여 제공하는 것이 필요하다.
