This study analyzed the bibliographic characteristics and the current situation of the collection management for 140,245 books published before 1945, excluding rare books in the National Library of Korea. The result shows that Eastern books collected by the Joseon Government-general Library accounted for 88.0%, making up most of the total. The publication period was from the 1920s to the 1940s, and most books were published in the Japanese language in Japan. The vast majority of books were stored in the NDL library, but the remaining books were distributed to each management department, and 70.9% had an image database. For the collection management of modern publications, it was suggested that the book’s physical and chemical aspects be analyzed to maintain a preservation environment suitable for the collection and promote unified collection management. In addition, it was confirmed that it was necessary to revise and supplement the already-built bibliographic information. In the mid-to-long term, it was required to consider recruiting additional professionals for modern publications and expanding the collection’s acquisition.

이 연구는 국립중앙도서관 소장자료 중 고서를 제외하고 1945년 이전에 간행된 140,245책을 대상으로 서지적 특징과 장서 관리 현황을 분석한 것이다. 연구의 결과 조선총독부도서관에서 수집한 동서(東書)가 88.0%로 대부분을 차지하고 있었고 1920-1940년대에 일본에서 일본어로 간행한 자료가 주를 이루고 있었다. 자료는 대부분 NDL도서서고에 보관되어 있었으나 나머지 자료들은 관리부서가 분산되어 있음을 확인하였고 70.9%의 자료는 원문데이터베이스가 구축되어 있었다. 근대문헌의 장서관리를 위해서는 자료의 물리화학적 측면을 분석하여 자료에 맞는 서고 환경을 유지하고 자료 관리의 일원화를 도모해야 함을 제안하였다. 또한 기 구축된 서지정보의 수정 보완 작업이 필요하였고 중장기적인 측면에서는 근대문헌에 대한 전문 인력의 충원과 자료의 수집 확대를 고려해야 함을 확인하였다.
