Per its nature, trauma is not only diverse and complex; trauma also has long-term effects on the subject. Trauma can break assumptions about self and the world prior to the trauma and bring about cognitive changes. However, recent research findings reveal that trauma is a dual process: it surely accompanies negative effects, but it can also bring positive consequences. Therefore, psychotherapy should identify personal and social resources that can contribute to post-traumatic growth intervention. There is a growing general interest in delayed-onset PTSD during the course of trauma symptoms. For elderly people, symptoms may not simultaneously appear with the traumatic event; the trauma can be reactivated due to the stress accumulation, such as physical illness due to aging, retirement, and loss experiences such as death loss. Therefore, in the elderly-caring field, such as geriatric medicine, psychiatry, and care, it is highly crucial to recognize trauma, which can affect the entire lifespan, and treat and care. Cognitive behavioral therapy and narrative therapy have been proven to be effective in elderly trauma treatment. Trauma has lifelong effects; at the same time, it is important to remember that it does not necessarily bring only negative consequences.
