This study is a result of a memory archiving project for college town shopkeepers. The project, designed by the MU:SÉUM team which was composed of undergraduate students studying history, aimed to find memories of students and to hold an exhibition. For this purpose, team members interviewed 8 shopkeepers who have been doing business in a college town for 9-36 years. The shopkeepers were greatly influenced by the rapidly changing situation of the college town and students but considered their relationships with students as meaningful and symbiotic. Also, this study points out that the memories of shopkeepers in the college community are useful for reconstructing the local and university histories both providing stories that cannot be found in public archives. Accordingly, this study insists the necessity of actively archiving such memories.

본 연구는 A대학 개교 50주년을 맞이하여 대학가 상인들의 기억을 아카이빙 하는 프로젝트 결과물이다. 이 프로젝트는 대학의 사료실이 담지 못한 학교 밖의 시선, 학 생들에 관한 이야기를 입체적으로 드러내고자 했다. 그리고 그 결과를 오프라인 전시 와 전시 도록의 형태로 표현⋅정리하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 2022년 하반기, 이를 위해 A대학 앞에서 9~36년간 영업해 온 상인 8명을 대상으로 인터뷰를 진행하고 관 련 전시를 완료하였다. 그 과정에서 본 연구는 대학가 상인들이 대학-지역 커뮤니티 의 주요 구성원임을 확인하였을 뿐 아니라, 커뮤니티 기억저장소로서 이들의 기억이 가지는 가치를 확인하였다. 상인들은 빠르게 변화하는 대학가, 대학과 학생들의 상황 에 큰 영향을 받으면서도 학교 구성원들과의 관계에 큰 의미를 부여했다. 최근 코로나 팬데믹 기간에 큰 어려움을 겪었던 상인들은 대학과 학생들의 도움에 고마움을 표현 하였으며, 자신들과 학생들의 관계를 일종의 공생관계로 인식하고 있었다. 또 상인들 의 기억은 공적 기록에서는 찾을 수 없는 지역 및 대학의 이야기들과 그에 대한 평가 를 제공하였으며, 이는 지역사와 대학사를 재구성하는 데 매우 중요한 소스이다. 따라 서 지역과 대학은 지금까지 주목받지 못했던 대학가 상인들의 삶과 기억을 적극적으 로 아카이빙 할 필요가 있다.
