Martin Bucer was a pastoral theologian during the Reformation. He contributed a lot to practical ministry as a pastoral theologian. In particular, he biblically restored the ecclesiastical office of pastors, doctors, elders, and deacons in the newly organized church. Since the beginning of the ministry, he has also made a lot of efforts to train church leaders with the training of pastors in mind. In 1538, he wrote “Von der waren Seelsoge” and presented the right direction for the ministry. He also biblically reformed the minister’s ordination, which is a novelty of the Roman catholic church. In the process of ordination, he suggested that candidates to be strictly examined and verified under the assembly’s intention. He abolished the secondary ceremonies which were essential for ordination of Roman catholic church. Focusing on the functions of Words, sacraments, and disciplines, he also reformed the manner of ordinating biblically, laying the foundation for ordination procedures in the reformed church.
