Pang Ji ihl’s incarnational mission was exemplary in terms of its nature and method of the cross-cultural mission. In order to accommodate Pang Ji ihl’s incarnational mission, this paper examines the main characteristics of the mission by applying Ross Langmead's incarnational model of trinitarian characteristics. Pang Ji ihl's mission in China can be summarized into the following three dimensions. Firstly, as an incarnational mission following the example of Jesus Christ, Pang Ji Ihl’s mission is about self-humbling by identifying with the local language and culture, nurturing leaderships following the example of Jesus, and sacrificing oneself by the way of the cross. Secondly, it can be characterized as mission that participates in the presence of the Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Pang Ji ihl established churches embodying Jesus Christ through evangelism and church planting, and followed the power of the Holy Spirit by carrying out mission work with the suffering congregation until the end. Finally, as an incarantional mission in solidarity with God’s mission, Pang Ji Ihl’s mission was a universal, comprehensive, and socially upright mission of the kingdom of God.

한국 타문화권 선교에서 방지일이 갖는 역사적 중요성은 그가 한국 장 로교 처음으로 2대에 걸쳐 중국의 산동에서 섬겼다는 것이며 선교의 본질 과 방법에 있어서도 성육신 선교의 모범을 보여주었다는 점이다. 본 논문은 방지일의 선교사의 삶과 사역의 본질인 성육신 선교의 특징을 보다 폭넓고 깊은 차원에서 다루기 위해 로스 랭미어드의 삼위 일체적 특성의 성육신 모 델을 적용하여 각각의 주요 특징을 다음과 같이 제시한다. 첫째, 예수 그리 스도의 본을 따르는 성육신 선교로서 방지일은 현지 언어와 문화와의 동일 시를 통한 자기낮춤, 예수의 본을 따르는 제자도의 실천과 현지 지도자 양 성, 그리고 십자가의 자기희생이다. 둘째, 성령의 능력으로 그리스도의 현 존에 참여하는 성육신 선교이다. 방지일은 복음전도와 교회 개척을 통해 그 리스도의 몸된 교회들을 세워나갔으며, 성령 하나님의 능력을 따라 고난 받 는 성도들과 끝까지 함께 하는 선교를 하였다. 셋째, 방지일은 하나님의 선 교에 연대하는 성육신적 선교를 통해 교파를 초월한 선교사들의 연합, 그리 고 사회적 책임을 다하는 하나님 나라의 보편성을 잘 보여주었다.
