The purpose of this article is to understand how he became a baseball player, meaning of retirement of player and identifying how life experiences he had before and after by facing the death. For this research, Oral History research method including In-depth interview, participant observation and analysis of books and research documents was used. The results of this study were found. First, inherited trait from his father is a key factor to become a baseball player. Second, even though Hangibum had a successful career as Basketball player, his life after retirement was very difficult. In other words, it means most of the retired athletes would have difficulties in adaption to society. Third, his severe experience from failure in business and marfan syndrome causing to death led him to be discouraged. Nevertheless he challenged for more better value by changing his life attitude. It is regarded through his life that Hope is a human being’s ultimate goal.

본 연구의 목적은 한기범의 생애를 통해 유명 운동선수의 삶이 어떠 했으며 인간의 궁극적 삶의 가치가 무엇인지를 이해하고자 했다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 인터뷰를 3차례 실시하였고, 녹취된 자료는 연 대기적 순서에 따라서 서사적으로 정리하였다. 이에 대한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한기범은 190cm 장신 아버지로부터 물려받은 선천적 특성과 아버지의 배구선수 경력이 농구선수로의 삶을 선택하게 된 중대한 계기 가 되었다. 둘째, 화려한 운동선수로서의 경력과 별개로 은퇴 후 대부분 운동선수가 겪게 되는 준비되지 않은 사회 진출로 심각한 어려움을 겪 었다. 셋째, 사업실패와 더불어 대수술 후 죽음에 직면한 직후 그의 삶 에 대한 태도는 크게 바뀌었다. 한기범 희망 나눔을 통해 자신이 가장 소중하게 여기는 농구를 통해 봉사와 나눔을 실천하고 있다. 이는 매슬 로우의 욕구 5단계인 자아실현이 농구인 한기범이 선택한 궁극적 삶의 가치이기 때문이다.
