In this paper, I analyze BL Metamorphosis (Tsurutani Kaori, 2017-2020), a series of women’s comics on a friendship between a 75-year-old woman and a 17-year-old high school girl formed through boy’s love (BL) comics set in the aging Japanese society. First, I elucidate the social reality of the aging otaku/fujoshi as the background of the life of the elderly depicted in this work. Second, I examine the media of BL comics and its mediation of homosocial solidarity of fujoshi—factors that determine the orientation of characters and the narrative, and essential background for understanding this work—in terms of women’s desire. On the surface, BL Metamorphosis seems to be a calm depiction of the encounter and friendship between an elderly woman and a high school girl, and changes that occur in their everyday life within the aging society of Japan. However, it should be noted that BL which mediates the two characters is closely associated with women’s sexual desires and fantasies, and what made their exchange possible was in fact women’s desire that was ultimately expressed and fulfilled through BL. Furthermore, the process in which the two protagonists form true friendship beyond the 58- year age gap is juxtaposed with that of BL characters’ romance, suggesting that homosocial solidarity formed directly or indirectly between main characters and the author of the comics in the work is as intense and deep as true love between the male characters. In this sense, rather than only reflecting the aging of otaku/fujoshi, BL Metamorphosis also illuminates fujoshi’s “miracle bond,” which is paired with the “miracle love” embodied by BL, that is, the “fantasy as reality” and “reality as fantasy” of fujoshi’s homosocial solidarity.

본 논문에서는 고령화사회 일본을 배경으로 75세 할머니와 17세 여고생의 보이즈러브(BL)를 통한 우정을 그린 여성만화 <툇마루에서 모든 게 달라졌다>(쓰루타니 가오리, 2017~2020)를 다음과 같은 두 가지 측면에 주목하여 분석한다. 첫째, 이 작품에서 묘사되는 노인의 삶과 그 배경으로서 오타쿠/ 후조시의 고령화라는 일본 사회의 사회적 현실을 분석하고, 둘째, 캐릭터와 서사의 방향성을 결정짓 는 요소인 동시에 이 작품을 이해하는 데 필수적인 배경으로서 BL만화라는 미디어와 그것이 매개하 는 후조시의 호모소셜한 연대를 여성들의 욕망이라는 관점에서 고찰한다. <툇마루>는 표면적으로는 여성노인과 여고생의 만남과 이들의 일상에 일어난 변화를 고령화사 회 일본을 배경으로 잔잔하게 그린 만화라는 측면을 지니고 있다. 그러나 이들을 매개한 BL은 여성 의 성적 욕망 및 판타지와 밀접하게 연결되어 있고, 무엇보다 이들의 교류가 가능하게 된 조건이 궁극 적으로 BL을 통해 표출되고 충족되는 여성의 욕망 때문이라는 점을 고려해야 한다. 나아가 주인공들 이 이 58세의 연령차를 넘어서 진정한 우정을 맺는 과정은 만화 속 BL만화에서 사랑을 성취하는 과 정과 병치됨으로써 주인공과 만화 속 만화의 작가가 직접적으로, 나아가 간접적으로 형성하는 호모소 셜한 유대가 BL에서 그려지는 남성캐릭터들 간의 진정한 사랑만큼 절실한 것이며, 동등한 가치와 깊 이를 지닌다는 점을 암시한다. 그런 의미에서 이 작품은 오타쿠/후조시의 고령화를 그대로 반영한 작품이라기보다는 그를 배 경으로 BL이 구현하는 ‘기적의 사랑’과 짝을 이루는 ‘기적의 유대’, 즉 후조시들의 호모소셜한 유대에 대한 “현실로서의 판타지”이자 “판타지로서의 현실”을 재현하고 있다
