The fundamental problem with moral philosophy is that it is detached from real life. Kant’s moral philosophy gives us moral responsibility and obligations based on human freedom; however, his concept of freedom is an empty one that has not escaped the chain of causality. Adorno argues that morality should not be constructed from a priori philosophy but from the damaged life of reality. His negative moral philosophy, focusing on human suffering, can be employed in politics. Adorno's moral philosophy has had many implications for the development of Korean democracy, which faces various problems. Democracy in Korea thus should be reformed into a “negative democracy” that pays attention to people’s practical pain.
