In the 1960s, Gayageum musicians in Korea started to use the systematic Sanjo-Gayageum score as Gayageum virtuoso Hwang Byeong-gi wrote the Sanjo-Gayageum tune as a music sheet. As a low-pitch instrument, many low additional lines had to be drawn on the score to express the sound of Gayageum. Therefore, Hwang Byeong-gi intentionally notated the scores the perfect fifth above the actual pitch. This paper proposes a new notation method that expresses three lowest strings of Gayageum 8 notes higher than the actual pitch while adding the octave symbols(8va) below the notes. Since musicians are familiar with the concept of octaves, this method of writing some Gayageum sounds an octave higher is expected to grant high visibility and legibility, although further studies are needed.

1960년대에 이르러 가야금의 명인 황병기가 서양의 오선보에 산조가야금 곡조를 기보함으로 써 우리는 비로소 체계적인 산조가야금 악보를 사용하게 되었다. 음역이 낮은 가야금 소리를 표현 하는 초창기의 가야금 오선보에는 여러 개의 아래 덧줄이 층층이 여러 겹으로 그려지게 되었기 때문에 황병기는 의도적으로 원래의 음보다 완전5도 높게 기보하는 방법으로 대처하였다. 본고는 산조가야금 12현 중 3개의 낮은 현을 8도 높여 표현하고 옥타브기호[8va]를 음표 아래에 덧붙이는 기보 방법을 제안하였다. 이런 방식으로 기보된 악보에 저음이 많은 가야금 소리의 일부가 한 옥타브 높여 기보되었더라도 옥타브 개념에 익숙한 음악인에게 시인성과 가독성의 측면에서 지장 이 크지 않을 것이라는 가정에 바탕을 둔 것이다.
