After the Korean church’s compressed and rapid growth, it is now undergoing an gradual decline as of 2000. This leads to various problems, one of which is the lack of preparation for the retirement of pastors. The number of pastors who are about to retire is increasing, while there are many problems such as imbalance of the supply of pastors in Korean churches, the lack of financial independence of small churches, and the continued decline in church members. Confusion is increasing because there are no guidelines such as the number of pastors retiring in the future, their financial needs and preparation, and manuals or standards for retirement. The circumstances related to the retirement of pastors are different for each denomination, and even that is left to each church, so the burden and responsibility for this remains solely pastors and churches. Fundamentally, there is a lack of a communal response as the one Holy Catholic Church. The main purpose of this article is to raise awareness of problems related to the retirement of pastors and to consider a necessity of a communal response. This study focuses on the practical difficulties related to the retirement of pastors, especially the economic part. It also deals with ethical and theological discussions related to pastoral retirement. There are five major cases that can be raised as a pastor's retirement pay, particularly in order to examine in detail what difficulties arise when a pastor of a small and ordinary church retires. Then, it will examine the practical problems facing pastors and churches. At the end of the article, I will acknowledge the incomplete reality and suggest the necessity of communal response and practice to overcome it.

한국교회가 압축적이고 급속도의 성장을 거치고 난 후, 2000년도를 기준으로 전반 적인 감소세의 상황을 거치고 있다. 이는 다양한 문제로 이어지는데 그중 하나가 바 로 목회자 은퇴에 대한 준비가 부족하다는 것이다. 한국교회의 목회자 수급과 처우, 작은 교회의 재정 자립도, 지속된 교인 감소세 등의 맥락 속에서 은퇴를 앞둔 목회자 의 수는 늘고 있다. 향후 은퇴하는 목회자의 수나 그에 따른 필요 재정, 구체적 기준 이나 교육 프로그램 등의 가이드라인이 없어서 혼란이 가중되고 있다. 목회자 은퇴와 관련한 지침이나 상황은 교단별로 상이하고, 그마저도 개교회에게 맡겨놓은 상황이라 이로 인한 부담과 책임은 오롯이 목회자와 교회의 몫으로 남아 있다. 근본적으로, 공 교회적 대응이 부족하다. 이 글의 주목적은 목회자 은퇴와 관련한 문제의식을 높이고 이에 대한 공교회적 대책을 고민하는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 목회자 은퇴와 관련한 현실적인 어려움, 그중에서도 경제적 부분에 주목한다. 그리고 목회자 은퇴와 관련한 윤리적이고 신학적 논 의를 다룬다. 특히 작고 평범한 교회의 목회자가 은퇴할 때 발생하는 어려움이 무엇 인지를 구체적으로 살펴보기 위하여 목회자 은퇴 보수 문제로 제기될 수 있는 사례를 크게 다섯 가지로 구분해서 설명한다. 이어서 목회자 및 교회가 당면한 현실적인 문 제를 따져볼 것이다. 글 마지막에는 불완전한 현실을 인정하고 이를 헤쳐 나가기 위 한 공교회적 관심과 실천의 필요성을 다룰 것이다.
