A Study on the Pachinko Industry and the Diaspora Narrative Structure of the 'Pachinko' Drama for Japanese-Koreans
초록
영어
The purpose of this study is to examine the formation process of the pachinko industry as a ethnic industry for Japanese-Koreans, the diaspora narrative structure of Hallyu culture and pachinko dramas, and the historical controversy between Korea and Japan triggered by the pachinko dramas. The research results are as follows. First, the three major national industries of Japanese-Koreans are pachinko industry, Yakiniku industry, and civil engineering and construction industry. These ethnic industries were selected as a result of the Japanese occupation and liberation period, after the Japanese-Koreans who moved to Japan and settled in Japan pioneered a niche market through social and employment discrimination in post-war modern Japan. Japanese-Koreans used the pachinko industry as a stepping stone to improve their families' livelihood and social and economic status. Second, the drama 'Pachinko' is an American work based on the production company and can be viewed as diaspora literature in terms of dealing with the identity of immigrants. However, it has the characteristics of K-drama in that rice and kimchi, which have strong Korean drama colors, appear, and the Busan and Jeju dialects are perfectly implemented in three languages: Korean, Japanese, and English. Therefore, it can be seen as a work in which Hallyu cultural elements and diaspora narratives are combined. Third, “Pachinko” delicately deals with the lives of Japanese-Koreans as well as the suffering of the Korean people during the Japanese colonial period.
