The purpose of this study is to verify the effects of body image and self-esteem on depression of female college students. First, body image had significantly positive correlation with self-esteem (r=0.600), and significantly negative correlation with depression (r=-0.484) in the correlation analysis (confidence level of 99%). Second, the effects of body image and self-esteem on depression had significant influences in step1 from the hierachical multiple regression analysis (R2=.316, F=20.571, p<.001, CI 99%). The body image(β=-.256, p<.05) and self-esteem(β=-.364, p<.01) had significantly negative effects on the depression (CI 95%). Conclusively, the level of depression could be reduced by intervening already formed negative body image with establishing the correct body image and self-esteem in female college students who are sensitive to their own body images.

본 연구는 여대생의 신체상 및 자아존중감이 우울에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 시도되었다. 첫째, 상관관계 분석결과, 신체상과 자아존중감 사이에는 r=0.600으로 상관크기가 나타나 99% 신뢰수준에서 통계적으로 유의한 강한 상관관계가 있고, 신체상과 우울 사이에는 r=-0.484로 상관크기가 나타나 99% 신뢰수준에서 통계적으로 유의한 중간 정도의 음의 상관 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 신체상 및 자아존중감이 우울에 영향을 미치는지 위계적 다중회귀분석(Hierarchical multiple regression analysis) 을 실시한 결과 1단계에서 회귀식은 R²=.316, F=20.571, p<.001로 99.9% 신뢰수준에서 통계적으로 유의 한 영향관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 신체상(β=-.256, p<.05), 자아존중감(β=-.364, p<.01)은 95% 신뢰 수준 이상에서 통계적으로 유의한 음의 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 자신의 신체상에 대해 민감한 시기인 여대생을 대상으로 신체상 및 자아존중감이 우울에 미치는 영향을 검증 함으로써 올바른 신체상 정립의 필요성과 자아존중감을 통해 이미 형성된 신체상 만족도의 부정적 영향을 중재하여 우울수준을 낮출 수 있음을 밝혔다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
