The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Namyang(the martyr's place of the persecution of 1866, Pyeongin Persecution) being developed as the Martyr's Shrine since 1983, is the first shrine which was dedicated to the Shrine of the Virgin Mary by the late Bishop Angello Kim Namsu on the feast of the blessed virgin Mary of the holy rosary(October 7, 1991) in Korean Roman Catholic Church. The Shrine of the Virgin Mary is known as those of apparitions of Virgin Mary such as Lourdes, Fatima and Banneux. But about 3,000 the Shrines of the Virgin Mary all over the world have been originated spontaneously or dedicated by the will of diocese and the faith of human. Among them, The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Namyang has very unique origin and history which combines both particularities. And also, Namyang with the 20-decade rosary trail might be the only shrine that can be called 'the Paradise of the Rosary' among many shrines of the Virgin Mary in the world. Even the Rosary Shrine of the Virgin Mary in Pompeii (built by beatus Bartolo Longo), which has been famous for built by the faith of human as Namyang's, has only a cathedral. Moreover, during the 10 years process of development, a mystery veiled in the trail of rosary has been found. If you look at the rosary trail and the square from the sky, it just looks like the icon of Virgin Mary in Vladimir. Even though there was no plan or no intention to make so. One thing that makes Namyang, a special place of Virgin Mary is that the footprints of pilgrims praying on the rosary trail is describing the face of Virgin Mary. By the origin and present of The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Namyang, Namyang is the place with special particularities, the Martyr's Shrine and the land made by the faith of human. Therefore, the development and pastoral ministry of the shrine should be focused on the harmony and balance of 'the special particularities'. First of all, it should be the place with endless prayers for the peace of whole world and the sanctification of families. And then, cherishing the memory of the Francis Xavier Choi Bang-Jae, one of the first Korean theological student, will make a praying place to dedicate continuously for the student near Namyang. In addition to that, by managing the pastoral ministry and the prayer school of Mary, we will bring up the rosary, the devotion of Eucharist, and educate the devotion of relying on the Divine Mercy.

남양성모성지는 병인박해 때의 순교지로 1983년부터 순교성지로 개발되어 오던 중 1991년 10월 7일 로사리오의 성모 축일에 수원 교구장 김남수 안젤로 주교에 의해 성모께 봉헌되고 한국 천주교회 내에서는 처음으로 성모성지로 공식 선포된 곳이다. 성모성지라고 하면 일반적으로 루르드, 파티마, 바뇌와 같이 성모의 발현에 의한 발현 성모성지를 떠올리게 된다. 그러나 전세계 약 3,000여곳에 이르는 성모성지들의 대부분은 자연발생적으로 생겨났거나 교구 및 인간의 의지로 성모께 봉헌된 성지들이다. 그 가운데서도 남양성모성지는 순교성지로 가꾸어져 오고 있던 자리를 교구 및 인간의 의지로 성모께 봉헌해 드리고 성모성지로 조성하고 있다는 점에서 복합적이면서도 독특한 역사와 기원을 가지는 성지라고 할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 성지 전체가 20단 묵주기도 길로 조성되어 있는 남양은 전세계 수많은 성모성지들 가운데서도 유일하게 ‘로사리오의 동산’이라고 불릴 만하다. 더구나 10여년의 개발 과정에서 드러난 놀라운 신비가 이 묵주기도 길에 숨어있는데, 이는 묵주기도 길과 광장의 모습을 하늘에서 내려다보면 블라디미르의 성모(자비의 성모) 이콘의 모습과 너무나 흡사하게 닮아 있다는 점이다. 그동안 아무런 설계도면이나 의도없이 그때그때 상황에 따라 산을 파고 길을 내고 나무를 심어 묵주기도 길을 만들었을 뿐인데 말이다. 살펴본 바와 같이 남양은 순교성지와 성모성지라는 특징을 동시에 지니고 있는 장소이다. 그러므로 성지의 개발과 사목에 있어서도 이 둘의 조화와 균형, 그리고 상관관계에 초점을 맞추는 것이 중요한 과제라고 생각된다. 먼저, 이 땅의 평화와 가정성화를 위해 끊임없이 묵주기도가 바쳐지는 장소가 되도록 할 것이다. 그리고 남양에서 태어난 한국 최초의 신학생 가운데 한 분인 최방제 프란치스코 하비에르를 기억하며 사제들의 어머니이신 성모께 사제들과, 남양에서 가까운 신학교에서 공부하는 신학생들을 위해 주모송 한 번이라도 지속적으로 봉헌되는 기도의 장소도 남양 성모성지 내에 만들 것이다. 이 밖에도 우리들의 사랑하올 어머니 남양성모님을 중심으로 한 사목과 마리아의 기도 학교 운영을 통하여 묵주기도와 성체신심, 그리고 하느님의 자비에 의탁하는 신심을 육성시키고자 노력하고 있다.
