The purpose of this study is to explore the aspects of co-teaching between classroom teachers and sports instructors in elementary school. Data were collected through questionnaires (n=80) and interviews (5 people), and the collected data were analyzed through inductive categorization procedure. As a result of the study, the co-teaching type revealed at the highest rate was the dependent type in which sports instructors play a leading role in lesson design and operation. The classroom teacher managed the students in class (patrolling type), did not enter the class at all (avoidant type), left the class to perform other tasks (task handling type), or observed the students aimlessly (wait-and-see type). Co-teaching overly dependent on sports instructors led to additional problem aspects such as the phenomenon of equating sports instructors with teachers in PE specialists and difficulties in PE classes run by classroom teacher alone without sports instructor. In the discussion, warnings about the possibility that the aspect of excessive dependence on sports instructors could cause elementary school teachers to lose their motivation to improve their PE class expertise and suggested efforts by each educational subject to normalize classes in co-teaching between classroom teacher and sports instructor. Finally, we emphasized the role of ‘assistant’ to sports instructors and requested follow-up research on co-teaching from the academic circles.

본 연구의 목적은 초등 담임교사와 스포츠강사의 협력 수업 양상을 탐색하는 데 있다. 자료는 설문(80명)과 인터뷰 (5명)를 통해 수집되었으며 주로 귀납적 범주화 과정을 통해 분석되었다. 연구 결과, 초등 스포츠강사 협력 수업에 서 가장 높은 비율로 나타난 유형은 의존형으로 수업 설계와 운영에 있어 스포츠강사가 주도적인 역할을 하고 있었 다. 담임교사는 수업에서 학생들을 관리하거나(순시형), 아예 수업에 들어가지 않거나(회피형), 수업에서 빠져나와 다른 업무를 수행하거나(업무처리형), 학생들을 목적 없이 관찰하고 있었다(관망형). 스포츠강사에게 과잉 의존된 협력 수업은 스포츠강사를 체육전담교사와 동일시 하는 현상과 스포츠강사 없이 담임교사 혼자 운영하는 체육수업 에서의 어려움으로 이어져 추가적인 문제 양상을 파생시키고 있었다. 논의에서는 스포츠강사에게 과잉 의존하는 양 상이 초등교사의 체육수업전문성 제고를 위한 동기를 상실시킬 가능성에 대한 경고와 스포츠강사 협력 수업의 정상 화를 위한 각 주체별 노력을 제안하였다. 끝으로 스포츠강사의 수업 보조 역할 수행을 강조하고 스포츠강사 협력 수업 관련 후속 연구를 학계에 당부하였다.
