This paper analyzed the works on the theme of strangeness and calamity in gwamun(科文)s of the Joseon Dynasty, and examined the perception of strangeness and calamity of writers of the Joseon Dynasty and the writing style of gwamun's works on the subject. Writers of the Joseon Dynasty distinguished and recognized the characteristics of ghosts in Cewen under the theme of strangeness, and expressed negative attitudes by using expressions such as "monster" for ghosts that were not subject to ancestral rites. On the other hand, the existence of the person subject to the memorial service was affirmed. In addition, the phenomenon of strangenee and calamy was directly related to and understood with political reality, and efforts were made to suggest specific measures to solve this problem. As a solution, the right mindset and effort of the king were mainly presented as fundamental tasks. In short, it is a characteristic of gwamun of the Joseon Dynasty to sublimate the supernatural phenomenon into the subject of the requirements of the time in relation to politics. In gwamun with the theme of strangeness and calamity, two characteristics were characterized: implementing the theme through comparison and reinforcing persuasion using reference. Comparison and contrast consisted of various aspects, such as comparison and contrast of ghosts and daily and extraordinary comparison, and the use of reference was used to add persuasion to the opinions of Confucian scholars by intensively citing their opinions. Also, one of the characteristics of the Gwamun on the theme of strange and calamity was that it brought the issue of the monarch's political correctness into the realm of politics and society, rather than dealing with strange and cataclysmic phenomena per se.

이 논문은 조선 과문 가운데 괴이, 재변 등을 주제로 한 작품들을 분석해 조선 문인들의 괴이, 재변에 대한 인식 및 이를 주제로 한 과문 작품들의 글쓰기 방식을 살펴보았다. 조선 문인들은 괴이 주제의 과문, 특히 책문에서 귀신에 대해 그 특성을 구분하 여 인식하였고, 특히 제사의 대상이 되지 않는 귀신들에 대해서는 ‘妖怪’ 등의 표현 을 쓰면서 부정적 태도를 드러내었다. 반면에 제사의 대상이 되는 성인이나 조상 등에 대해서는 그 존재를 긍정하는 면모를 보여주었다. 괴이, 재변 현상에 대해서는 그것을 자연 현상으로 수용하고 마는 것이 아니라, 정치 사회 현실과 이들 현상을 직접적으로 연관시켜 이해하였고, 이를 해결하기 위한 구체적 방안을 제시하고자 노력하였던 바, 특히 군주의 올바른 마음가짐과 노력을 근본적인 과제로 제시하고 강조하는 성향을 보였다. 요컨대 귀신 등의 초자연적인 현상을 정치와 연관지어 時務에 대한 주제로 승화시키는 것이 조선 과문(특히 책문)의 특징적 면모라고 정리할 수 있을 것이다. 한편, 이러한 주제를 효과적으로 구현하기 위해 괴이 주제 과문의 글쓰기 특징을 살펴본바, 비교를 통한 주제 구현, 전거를 활용한 설득력 강화 두 가지를 괴이 주제 과문의 글쓰기 특징의 하나로 제시하였다. 비교 대조는 귀신에 대한 비교 대조, 일상 성과 비일상성의 비교 대조 등 다양한 양상으로 이루어져 글쓰기의 목적을 달성하 는 데 기여하였다고 평가할 수 있고, 전거의 활용은 특히 정통 유학자들의 견해를 집중적으로 인용함으로써 답안 작성자가 자신의 견해에 설득력을 더하는 용도로 활용되었다고 하겠다. 또한 괴이, 재변 현상을 그 자체로 다루지 않고 정치 사회의 영역으로 끌어들여 군주의 정치적 올바름의 문제를 부각시킨 점 또한 괴이 및 재변 주제 과문의 글쓰기 특징의 하나로 파악하였다.
