[Purpose] This study aimed to understand the historical background of the development of Korean women's professional golf. [Method] To this end, newspaper articles and magazines related to Ku, Ok-hee, a pioneer of women's professional golf, were reviewed. [Result] Ok-hee Ku, the first generation of Korean female professional golfers born in 1978, was a golf empress with 44 victories including 20 KLPGA wins, 23 JLPGA wins, and 1 LPGA win. What makes her record great is that she overcomes the exclusive golf environment of the upper class and men. She was also the first to conquer discrimination and loneliness and pioneer overseas stages, including Japan and the United States, to win her first championship. [Conclusion] The pioneering path that Ok-hee Ku walked should be remembered as a precious priming for the growth and development of current Korean players.

[목적] 본 연구는 한국 여자 프로 골프가 발전할 수 있었던 역사적 배경을 파악하고자 한다. [방법] 이를 위해 여자 프로 골프의 선구자인 구옥희와 관련된 신문 기사와 잡지 등의 문헌을 고찰했다. [결과] 구옥희는 1978년에 탄생한 한국 여자 프로골퍼 1세대로 KLPGA 20승, JLPGA 23승, LPGA 1승을 포함해 통산 44승을 거둔 골프여제였다. 그녀의 기록이 위대한 것은 상류층과 남성만을 위한 배타적인 골프 환경을 극복했기 때문이다. 또한 차별과 외로움을 극복 하고 일본과 미국을 포함한 해외 무대를 개척해 최초의 우승을 차지했기 때문이다. [결론] 구옥희가 걸었던 개척의 길은 현재 한국 여자 프로 선수들의 성장과 발전을 위한 소중한 마중물로 기억되어야 한다.
