The purpose of this study is to re-examine the Bible Club Movement before and after the Korean War. The scope of the study is centered on the period from around the 1930s when the Bible Club was born to the early 1960s. The Bible Club has one thing in common, both in Pyengyang and in South Korea, in missionary work and educational work for poor children. The development pattern changes little by little depending on the his torical background. The Children's Bible Clubs began this work of charity-the poor for the poorer in Pyengyang. Therefore, the Bible Club movement is based on the idea that the poor help the poorer. Above all, during the Korean War, the Bible Club opened a school in the refuge area while moving with refugees from the wartime situation of the Korean War. Although it was a mobile school, it served as an educational institution and various roles in social welfare. Before the war, it had a role of protecting and educating poor orphan children, but during the war, new educational programs were planned for children of refugees and poor children of war widows. It was possible with the support of war relief funds and relief supplies that this movement of the Bible Club could continue during the war.

이 글은 한국전쟁을 전후로 한 성경구락부 운동을 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 연구범위는 성경구락부가 탄생하는 1930년대 전후부터 1960년대 초반까지를 중심으로 집중 조명하고자 한다. 성경구락부는 평양과 남한 시절 모두 무산아동을 상대로 한 선교사업과 교육사업이라는 공통점을 갖고 있다. 단지 시대적 배경에 따라 전개 양상은 조금씩 변모한다. 평양에서 시작된 아동성경구락부는 가난한 자들이 더 가난한 자들을 위한 자선활동으로부터시작되었다. 그러므로 성경구락부 운동의 이념은 ‘가난한 자들이 더 가난한 자들을 돕는다’는 정신에 있다. 무엇보다 한국전쟁기에 성경구락부는 한국전쟁이라는 전시 상황에서 피난민들과 함께이동하면서 피난지에서 학교를 열었다. 움직이는 이동식 학교였지만, 교육기관이자 사회복지의 다양한 역할을 수행했다. 전쟁 이전에는 빈곤한 무산아동을 보호하고 교육하는 역할이었지만, 전시에는 피난민의 자녀들과 전쟁미망인의 가난한 아이들을 위한 새로운 교육활동 프로그램들이 기획되었다. 전시하에서 이러한 성경구락부 운동이 지속될 수 있었던 것은 전쟁구호 자금과 구호품들의 지원으로 가능했다.
