This study conducted a review of the production site of fish glue and the type of Fish glue calculated by production site, targeting the Chungcheong-do area. During the Joseon Dynasty, there was an area where fish glue was obligated to pay to the state as tax. However, regions other than those obligated through this study were newly assumed as production sites for fish glue. In other words, many areas centered on areas adjacent to the sea or river were identified as fish glue production sites or assumed to be areas with a high possibility of production. The types of fish glue produced in each region made it most actively assume the generally expected possibility of producing croaker glue and nibe croaker glue. In addition, the possibility of calculating other crab shell glue and false minnow glue including sea cucumber glue and sweet fish glue was also expected. Above all, the pattern of the production of fish glue developed in various regions renewed the perception of the foundation of the production of fish glue in the Joseon Dynasty. In addition, it provided a useful basis for understanding the supply base for private demand as well as the public demand of each region for fish glue. The pattern of the calculation of fish glue in Chungcheong-do, which was mainly assumed to be croaker glue and nibe croaker glue, was quite different from that of some regions of Gyeongsang-do, which passively assumed the production of these fish glue. In particular, it was quite different from the situation in the Gyeongsang-do region, which led to relatively active consideration of the possibility of producing sea cucumber glue and sweet fish glue, including the active assumption of salmon glue production. In addition, the perspective of interpreting the type of fish glue paid to the center in each region was avoided from a single point of view.

본 연구는 충청도 지역을 대상으로 어교 생산지와 생산지 별 산출 어교에 관해 검토를 진행한 것이다. 어교 생산지는 『세종실록』 지리지에서 어교를 공물로 분정한 지역 이외에 다양한 군현이 생산지로 파악, 상정되었다. 즉 바다 혹은 하천에 인접한 군현을 중심으로 적지 않은 군현이 어교 산출지로 확인되거나 산출 가능성이 큰 지역으로 상정되었다. 지역별 산출 어교는 일반적으로 기대하는 석수어교와 민어교의 산출 가능성을 가장 적극 상정케 했다. 아울러 해삼교와 은구어교를 비롯하여 오교, 타교 등 기타 어교의 산출 가능성도 기대케 했다. 기대와 달리 다양한 지역에서 진행된 어교 생산은 무엇보다도 조선시대 어교 생산의 토대에 대한 인식을 새롭게 했다. 아울러 어교에 대한 각 지역의 공적 수요뿐만 아니라 민간에서의 사적 수요에 대한 공급 기반 및 구조를 이해하는데 유용한 기초를 제공했다. 석수어교와 민어교 위주로 상정된 충청도 지역 어교 산출 양상은 이들의 산출을 소극적으로 상정케 했던 경주부 등 경상도 일부 지역의 산출 양상과는 상당히 다른 것으로 파악되었다. 특히 연어교 생산의 적극적 상정을 포함하여 해삼교와 은구어교 생산 가능성을 비교적 적극 고려케 했던 경상도 지역 상황과는 상당히 차별화되었다. 아울러 각 지방에서 중앙에 공납한 어교의 종류를 일괄하여 하나의 종류 혹은 시선으로 이해하거나 해석하려는 관점을 일정량 지양케 했다.
