This paper reviews and analyzes the current status of Catholicism-related articles reported in Gangwon-do's representative local newspaper, the Gangwon Ilbo. The Gangwon Ilbo has served as a regional comprehensive daily newspaper since 1957 and is an important source reporting various contents related to the region. Accordingly, I checked the microfilm of the Gangwon Ilbo, which was not made into a database, and collected and cataloged articles related to Catholicism from 1958 to 1989, and classified and analyzed them by content by age. From 1958 to 1989, there are a total of 573 articles related to Catholicism in the Gangwon Ilbo, and if classified by era, there are 7 articles in the 1950s, 166 articles in the 1960s, 149 articles in the 1970s, and 251 articles in the 1980s. By content, there are 52 general Catholic cases, 64 general Korean Catholic cases, 75 general religious cases in the province, 199 general cases of parishes, 137 cases of churches with areas schematized as social participation, and 46 other cases. Among the 573 articles, not only articles on the trend of the Catholic Church in Gangwon-do, but also the role of Catholicism in Gangwon-do and how it coexisted with the local community in the course of history, such as relief work in the 1960s, birth control and family planning in the 1970s, and the democratization movement in the 1980s, were included. 이 논문은 강원도의 대표적인 지역 신문인 강원일보에 보도된 천주교 관련 기사 현황을 검토하고 이를 분석한 것이다. 강원일보는 1957년부터 지역 종합일간지의 역할을 하며 지역과 관련된 다양한 내용을 보도하고 있는 중요한 자료지만, 2002년 10월 11일 이전 신문은 홈페이지에서 확인이 불가하다. 이에 필자는 DB화가 되어있지 않은 강원일보 마이크로필름을 확인하여, 1958년부터 1989년까지 천주교 관련 기사를 수집 및 목록화하고 시대별 내용 별로 분류 분석하였다. 1958년부터 1989년까지 강원일보에 수록된 천주교 관련 기사는 총 573건이 며, 시대별로 구분하면 1950년대 7건, 1960년대 166건, 1970년대 149건, 1980 년대 251건이다. 내용별로 구분하면 가톨릭 일반 52건, 한국 가톨릭 일반 64건, 도내 종교 일반 75건, 교구 일반 199건, 사회 참여로 도식화된 지역과 함께하는 교회 137건 그리고 기타 46건이다. 573건의 기사 속에는 강원도 천주교회의 동향에 관한 기사뿐만 아니라, 1960년대 구호사업, 1970년대 산아제한과 가족계획, 1980년대 민주화운동 등 역사의 전개 과정에서 강원지역 천주교가 행한 역할 및 지역사회와 어떻게 공존하였는지를 살필 수 있는 기사도 많이 포함되어 있다.
