In the persecution period the Devotion to Blessed Mother of Korean Catholic Church have originated in the book of Western Learning from China. It was concretized by the leaders of church, Priest Joo, Moon-mo, President Jung, Yak-jong and etc. It was continued to communities such as Virgins, the group of people admiring Virgin Mary and Myungdo society that gives chaplet regularly. Tradition of respect on the Virgin Mary, distinguished from Devotees in the early period of Catholic church, especially martyrs, was reinvigorated and developed more by the French missionaries in the persecution period. Among the French missionaries, Bishop Imbert and Bishop Daveluy had great deal of influence. Thus, Devotion to Blessed Mother which succeed from the early period of Korean Catholic church, made an affluent devotion of martyrdom. The devotion of martyrdom of Korean Catholic church can be judged to be brought up and protected with special respect and deep entrustment of Blessed Mother.

박해시대 한국 천주교회의 성모신심은 교회창설기 중국에서 들어온 한문서학서(漢文西學書)로부터 발원하였고. 주문모 신부와 정약종 회장 등 당시 교회지도자의 사목방침과 지도방향 등에서 좀더 구체화되어, 성모님의 동정을 본받고자 하는 동정녀들의 모임과 동정부부의 탄생은 물론이고 정기적으로 묵주신공을 바치는 명도회와 같은 단체활동으로 이어졌다. 초기교회 신자들, 특히 순교자들에게서 두드러진 성모공경의 전통은 박해시대 프랑스 선교사들의 지도와 모범으로 더욱 활성화되고 심화, 발전하게 되었는데, 프랑스 선교사들 중에서도 앵베르 주교와 다블뤼 주교의 영향력은 매우 컸던 것으로 보인다. 이와 같이 한국 초기교회로부터 계승되어 온 성모신심은 예수성심에 바탕을 둔 신심으로써 순교신심을 더욱 풍요롭게 하였다. 한국 교회의 순교신심은 순교자의 모후이신 성모님께 대한 각별한 공경과 깊은 의탁으로 양성되고 보호되었다고 평가할 수 있다.
