The 'Jeju Local Culture Utilizing Trademark and Design Contest' is held as part of disseminating intellectual property and nurturing human resources with the goal of creating a leading model for intellectual property education, the only base in the Jeju region including subtropical biological industry such as citrus. This contest has been operated since 2019 in collaboration with related organizations in Jeju Island. The purpose of the contest is to induce the creation of intellectual property through the realization of creative ideas using the local culture of Jeju Island, and to discover intellectual property talents to strengthen employment and start-up capabilities. The target audience is elementary, middle and high school students, undergraduate and graduate students, and the general public residing in Jeju Island. The fields of participation are divided into trademark and design fields using Jeju language and Jeju culture. Ideas of various age groups are being discovered and combined with local culture. The submitted works are reviewed and the best works are selected and supported so that they can be turned into rights. Through this study, we intend to review the operation cases and results of competitions utilizing local culture, and suggest best practices for nurturing intellectual property talents and securing regional-specific intellectual property rights.

본 연구를 통해 감귤을 포함하는 아열대생 물산업 등의 지역 문화를 활용한 경진대회의 운영 사례 및 결과물을 검토하고, 지식재산 인재 양성 및 지역특화형 지식재산권 확보의 모범 사례를 제시하고자 한다. 제주대학교는 제주지역 유일의 거점 국립대학으로서 지역 발전을 위한 제주형 지식재산 교육의 선도 모 델 창출을 목표로 지식재산 확산과 인재 양성 의 일환으로 ‘제주 향토문화 활용 상표·디 자인 경진대회’를 운영 중이다. 이 경진대회 는 2019년부터 제주도 내 유관 기관과의 협업 을 통해 운영되고 있다. 경진대회의 목적은 제주도의 향토 문화를 활용한 창의적 아이디 어 구현을 통해 지식재산 창출을 유도하고, 지식재산 인재를 발굴하여 취·창업 역량을 강화하는 것이며, 참가대상은 제주도 내 소속 된 초·중·고등학생, 대학(원)생 및 일반인 을 대상으로 하고, 참가 분야는 제주어와 제 주문화를 활용한 상표·디자인 분야로 나누어 참가하도록 하고 있다. 다양한 연령층의 아이 디어가 감귤, 한라산, 돌하르방 등의 지역 문 화와 결합되어 창출되어 제출되었고, 일부는 권리화를 진행하고 있다. 즉 접수된 작품은 심사를 통해 우수작품을 선정하여 권리화할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다.
