The Seoul Namsadang-pae (남사당패), Jinju (진주) Sotdaejaengi-pae (솟대 쟁이패), and Uiryeong (의령) Sinban (신반) Daegwangdae-pae (대광대패. climbing a high bamboo pole clown group), which were the wandering clowns of the Joseon Dynasty, were a group of performers that gained national fame with many arts. The traditional magic they practiced was called Eolleun (얼른) or Hwansul (환술). It is one of the performances that show the impossible to be possible using fast hand movements or various tools and devices. This type of magic was handed down in East Asian countries, and Korea was also influenced by Chinese magic that was introduced from the West, and was developed and inherited by a group of wandering performers. In this paper, along with a historical review of Eolleun, the process and characteristics of the recent restoration and reproduction of Song Cheol-Soo’s Eolleun, who was a performer in the Uiryeong Sinban Daegwangdae-pae in the past, centering on his son Song Il-Jo, are summarized Currently, research on Eolleun is incomplete, and this study is also only a adventrous study. However, starting with these studies, various studies and restoration work on Eolleun should be carried out. And based on this, data that can be used to understand and inherit the Eolleun should be constructed.

조선시대 유랑광대패인 서울 남사당패, 진주 솟대쟁이패, 의령 신반 대광대패는 많은 기예로 전국적으로 명성을 떨쳤던 예인집단이다. 이들 이 연행하던 전통적인 마술을 환술 또는 얼른이라고 불렀다. 빠른 손놀 림이나 각종 도구, 장치등을 이용하여 불가능한 일을 가능하게 보여주 는 연행의 하나이다. 이런 환술은 동아시아 국가에서 두루 전승되었고, 우리나라 또한 서역에서 유입된 중국 환술의 영향을 받아, 유랑예인집 단에 의해 발전 및 전승되었다. 본고에서는 환술(얼른)의 역사적 검토와 함께 과거 의령신반대광대 패에서 활동하였던 송철수의 환술(얼른)을 그의 아들 송일조를 중심으로 최근 복원, 재현한 과정과 특징을 정리하였다. 현재 환술(얼른)에 대한 연구는 미비하여, 본 연구 역시 시론적 연구 에 불과하다. 하지만 이러한 연구를 시작으로 환술(얼른)에 대한 다양 한 연구와 복원작업이 이루어져서, 이를 바탕으로 환술(얼른)을 이해하 고 전승하는데 활용 할 수 있는 자료를 구축하여야 할 것이다.
