This study analyzes the effects of explorative and exploitative capability of foreign subsidiary of Korean listed firms on the reverse knowledge transfer to HQ’s, especially focusing on the moderating effects of technological and market orientation of foreign subsidiary. The results of this study are as follows. First, the exploratory capability of foreign subsidiary did not significant effect on the reverse knowledge transfer to HQs. On the other hand, it was found that the exploitative capability of overseas subsidiary had a significant positive effect on the reverse knowledge transfer to HQs. Second, as a result of verifying the moderating effect of technological orientation, it was found that technological orientation moderates the relationship between the exploratory capability and reverse knowledge transfer of overseas subsidiary in a positive direction. However, in this model, it was found that explorative capability, the main effect, did not has a significant effect on reverse knowledge transfer. On the other hand, technological orientation was found to weaken the positive effect of exploitative capability on reverse knowledge transfer. Third, as a result of verifying the moderating effect of market orientation, it was found that market orientation did not show a significant moderating effect in the relationship between explorative capability and reverse knowledge transfer. On the other hand, market orientation was found to strengthen the positive relationship between exploitative capability and reverse knowledge transfer. This study is expected to present meaningful academic and practical implications in that it investigates the effects of explorative and exploitative capability of foreign subsidiary on reverse knowledge transfer, and the moderating role of technological and market orientation in that relationship.

본 연구는 한국기업 해외자회사의 탐색적 역량과 활용적 역량이 본사로의 역지식이전에 미치는 영향을 기술지향성과 시장지향성의 조절효과를 중심으로 실증분석한다. 한국 상장기업 해외자회사 248개를 대상으로 실증분석한 결과, 첫째, 탐색적 역량은 역지식이전 에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 활용적 역량은 해외자회사의 역지식이전에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 기술 지향성의 조절효과를 검증한 결과 기술지향성은 해외자회사의 탐색적 역량과 역지식이전 간 관계에서 긍정적인 조절역할을 하는 것 으로 나타났지만, 메인효과인 탐색적 역량은 역지식이전에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 기술지향성은 활용적 역량이 역지식이전에 미치는 긍정적인 영향을 약화시키는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 시장지향성의 조절효과를 검증한 결과 시장지향성 은 탐색적 역량과 역지식이전 간 관계에서 유의한 조절효과를 보이지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 시장지향성은 활용적 역량과 역지 식이전 간 긍정적인 관계를 강화시키는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 해외자회사의 역량을 탐색적/활용적 역량으로 구분하고 이러한 역량이 역지식이전에 미치는 영향을 규명하고 있다는 점, 그리고 탐색적/활용적 역량과 역지식이전 간 관계에서 기술지향성과 시장 지향성의 조절역할을 규명했다는 점에서 의미있는 학술적, 실무적 시사점을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
