The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the athletic ankle show greater rotation and translation movement than non-athletic ankle during the treadmill walking with their preferred speed in a complete gait cycle. Thirty young and healthy male subjects participated in the study,15 handball players(mean age: 19.6 ±1.4 years old, mean weight: 85±11.9 Kg, mean height: 179.8±4.7 ) and 15 non-athletes (mean age: 22.8 ±1.2 years old, mean weight: 74.5±8.6 Kg, mean height: 175±5.9 ). Three -dimensional positional coordinate of lower limb during treadmill walking were analyzed. There were significant differences (t (28) =-5.365, p<0.01 in the maximum dorsiflexion/plantar flexion with mean value for handball player (M=10.133, SD=2.166) was higher than non-athletes (M=14.2333, SD=2.0166). The magnitude of the difference in the means (mean difference=4.1, 95% CI: -5.66556 to-2.5344) was significant at significance level 0.05. There were also significant differences in the maximum and minimum abduction and adduction. whereas there were not any significant differences in minimum dorsiflexion and plantar flexion. Finding of this study suggest that to understand the actual characteristic of ankle motion, studies should be done in different walking and running trial at variable speed.

본 연구의 목적은 보행 시 운동선수들이 비운동 선수보다 시공간 변인들 및 발목관절에서 보다 더 큰 회전 및 병진 운동을 나타내는지를 비교, 분석하고자 하는데 있다. 30명의 젊고 건강한 남성이 본 연구에 참여하였으며, 핸드볼 선수 15명(평균 연령: 19.6±1.4세, 평균 체중: 85±11.9Kg, 평균 신장: 179.8±4.7cm)과 15명의 비운동 선수(평균 연령: 22.8±1.2세, 평균 체중: 74.5±8.6Kg, 평균 신장: 175±5.9cm)로 나누어 보행 시 하지의 3차원 위치 좌표를 분석하여 시공간 및 발목관절의 변인들을 산출하였다. 본 연구의 결과 최소 배측굴곡과 족저굴곡에서는 유의한 차이가 없었지만, 최대 배측굴곡 및 저측굴곡, 최대 및 최소 외전과 내전에서는 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 많은 신체활동이 보행에서도 영향을 미친다는 것을 시사한다고 판단된다.
