This study set out to examine factors causing a career mismatch as Taekwondo majors advanced into society after graduation based on their career choices according to their aptitudes and interests after years of Taekwondo training, admission to college, and selection of a specialization. For this purpose, the investigator conducted an in-depth interview with eight participants that graduated from a university in Taekwondo, had experiences of working as a Taekwondo instructor or master, and had a mismatch between their specialization and occupation. The findings led to the following conclusions: First, they felt that their instruction competency was not enough to teach trainees on the site and experienced many difficulties with the methods to teach young trainees even though they entered the Taekwondo department and acquired expertise and skills; second, the curriculums did not reflect reality and caused them a lot of difficulties on the site after graduation. This was one of the factors that caused a career mismatch after they graduated from the Taekwondo department and advanced into society; third, the graduates of the Taekwondo department were negative about the unjust treatments of Taekwondo instructors and people's images of Taekwondo studios. There was a huge gap between the social status of Taekwondo instructors perceived by graduates of the Taekwondo department and that perceived by the society; fourth, graduates of the Taekwondo department wanted diverse experiences other than Taekwondo that they practiced for many years when they tried to make a career choice; and finally, people tended to prefer a stable job due to the economic downturn following the outbreak of COVID-19. Taekwondo studios suffered economic difficulties due to COVID-19 along with low birth rates and the saturation of Taekwondo studios. Watching the difficulties, the research participants preferred a more stable job than a Taekwondo instructor.

이 연구는 장기간 태권도를 수련하고 대학 진학과 전공선택에 있어 본인의 적성과 흥미를 고려하여 진로를 선택하 는 태권도학과 전공생이 졸업 후 사회로 진출 시 진로 불일치를 일으키는 요인은 무엇인지 탐색해보고자 하였다. 이 연구를 달성하기 위하여 4년제 태권도학과를 졸업하고 태권도 지도자, 사범의 직무를 경험해본 졸업생 중 전공과 직업이 불일치 하는 8명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 심층면담을 실시하였으며, 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 태권도학과에 진학하여 전문적인 지식과 기술을 습득하였음에도 불구하고 현장에서 수련생을 지도하는 지도 능력 이 부족하다고 느꼈으며, 어린 수련생을 지도하는 방법적인 부분에서 여러 어려움을 확인하였다. 둘째, 현실을 반영하지 못하는 교과과정으로 인하여 대학교 졸업 후 현장에서 많은 어려움을 경험한 것으로 보이며 이러한 요인은 태권도학과 졸업생이 사회진출 시 진로 불일치를 선택하는 요인 중 하나이다. 셋째, 태권도 지도자의 부당한 처우와 사람들이 인식하 는 태권도장에 대한 이미지가 태권도학과 졸업생에게는 부정적으로 인식되었으며, 태권도학과 졸업생과 사회가 인식하 는 태권도 지도자의 사회적 위치 간의 괴리감이 큰 것으로 보인다. 넷째, 진로 결정에 있어서 태권도학과 졸업생의 경우 오랜시간 수련해온 태권도 이외의 다양한 경험을 원하였다. 다섯째, 코로나19로 인하여 경제가 위축되면서 안정적인 일 자리를 선호하는 현상이 나타났다. 특히 저출산과 태권도장 포화상태라는 사회적 문제와 더불어 코로나19로 인하여 태권 도장의 경제적인 어려움은 태권도학과 졸업생들이 사회진출 시 태권도 지도자보다 안정적으로 일할 수 있는 일자리를 선호하는 요인으로 작용하였다.
