The purpose of this study was to analyze the process of returning to school after dropping out of soccer players, the cause of dropout of soccer players, and the psychological and social difficulties of returning to school after dropping out. The research participants used the snowball extraction method. Five soccer players who dropped out of middle school and five soccer players who dropped out of high school A total of 10 people were selected. The research procedure used the phenomenological research method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. Among the cultural analysis methods suggested by Spradley (1980). The conclusions drawn through the above research method were as follows. First, the reasons for dropping out of soccer players were found to be injuries, poor performance, negative sports environment, and problems with higher education. Second, psychological difficulties in the academic transition process of dropped out soccer players were found to be career anxiety, maladaptation to school life, and learning anxiety. Third, social difficulties in the academic transition process of dropped out soccer players were found to be negative gazes and conflicts from others, teachers' prejudice and indifference, and institutional maladjustment.

이 연구의 목적은 축구선수의 중도탈락 후 학업복귀 이행과정에 관한 연구로서 중도탈락한 청소년 축구선수의 중도탈락 원인, 중도탈락 후 학업복귀 과정에서의 심리적·사회적 어려움과 그에 따른 현상을 심층적으로 분석하는데 있다. 사례에 대한 풍부한 정보를 가진 최초의 연구 참여자로 시작하여 지속적인 추천을 통해 연구 대상자를 늘려나가는 눈덩이 추출법을 사용하였으며, 중학교 시기의 중도탈락 축구선수 5명과 고등학교 시기의 중도탈락 축구선수 5명 총 10 명을 선정하였다. 조사절차는 질적 연구방법 중 하나인 현상학적 연구방법을 사용하였으며, 연구의 목적에 맞는 체계적인 해석을 위해 Spradley(1980)가 제시한 문화 분석방법 중 영역 분석(domain analysis)과 분류 분석(taxonomic analysis)을 이용해 수집된 자료를 분류 및 해석하였다. 연구방법을 통해 도출된 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중도탈락 원인은 부상, 실력저하, 부정적 운동환경, 진학문제로 나타났다. 둘째, 학업 이행과정에서 심리적 어려움은 진로불안, 학교 생활 부적응, 학습불안으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학업 이행과정에서 사회적 어려움은 타인의 부정적 시선 및 갈등, 교사의 편견 과 무관심, 제도적 부적응으로 나타났다.
