In the era of new normal, what is the future of the museum? To answer this question, this study focused on the new roles of the museum. It aims to explore the life of an educator who has conducted museum education for long and present the direction for the extended role of the museum by examining the meaning and value of practical reflection of cultural mediation and characteristics of expertise. For this, using a qualitative research method, this study conducted life history research. The research participant is an educator who worked for nine years at a museum. Through the life story of the research participant, the meaning of museum education experience, the process of communication with visitors, and the formation and change process of practical reflection of museum education were explored. Most of the data were collected by theme through in-depth interviews. According to research results, elements required for a cultural intermediary at a museum are divided into five categories and museum education activities produce cultural mediation through convergence activities with each element. Based on the findings of this research, the elements of a cultural intermediary to be applied to a museum need to be presented and various forms of cultural mediation activities need to be conducted according to the characteristics of museums. In addition, the characteristics of cultural mediation that is commensurate with the environment of Korean museums need to be identified and educators as a professional cultural intermediary who will implement the cultural mediation need to be cultivated. This study has its significance in that it presented basic data for establishing the vision, new roles and operating system of the museum that fosters communication among visitors and participation by visitors and provides holistic experience regarding culture and arts. Various extended roles of the museum are necessary in a society where an environment suitable to the changed lifestyle of the new generations is prioritized.

뉴노멀 시대, 박물관은 어떤 미래를 맞이할 것인가? 이 연구는 이러한 질문에 답하기 위해 새로운 박물관의 역할에 대해 주목하였다. 이에 오랜 기간 박물관 교육을 진행해온 한 교육사의 활동을 탐구하여, 실천적 성찰 의미와 가치, 전문성의 특징을 살펴봄으로써 박물관의 확장된 역할에 대한 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위 해 질적 연구 방법으로 생애사 연구를 진행하였다. 연구참여자는 **박물관에서 9년간 활동한 교육사이다. 연구 참여자의 이야기를 통해 박물관 교육의 경험 의미, 관람객과의 소통과정, 박물관 교육의 실천적 성찰 형성과 변화과정에 대해 탐색하였다. 자료수집은 심층인터뷰를 통해 주제중심의 수집으로 이루어졌다. 연구결과 교육 사의 실천적 성찰 경험은 즐거움을 선사하다, 방향을 제시하다, 성장을 조력하다. 관계를 맺다, 한계를 극복하 다의 요소로 나타났다. 박물관 교육 활동은 각 요소와의 융합을 통해 문화매개활동이 이루어지고 있었다. 이 연구를 기반으로 박물관에 적용될 수 있도록 교육사가 문화매개자로서 갖추어야 할 요소를 제시하여 박물관의 특성에 따라 다양한 형태의 문화매개활동을 전개할 필요가 있다. 또한 국내 박물관 환경에 적합한 문화매개 특 성을 파악하고 이를 실행할 전문적인 문화매개자로서의 교육사를 양성해야 할 것이다. 이 연구는 관람객간 소 통과 참여를 도모하고, 문화예술에 대한 총체적 경험을 지향하는 박물관의 비전과 박물관의 새로운 역할, 박물 관 운영 체계 수립을 위한 기초자료를 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 새로운 세대의 변화된 라이프스타일에 적합한 환경이 우선시되는 사회에서 박물관의 확장된 다양한 역할이 요구된다.
