This paper selected Hwang Soon-won's works dealing with the disabled among his post-war novels as the subject of research. In particular, paid attention to the madness of the disabled. The ‘madness’ is interpreted as a truth that "abnormal social structure" tried to cover up, not a social pathological phenomenon. Society is a fluid being that intersects normality and abnormality. In the meantime, individuals experience extreme confusion. But society doesn't recognize anomalies. Therefore, internal conflicts among members of society develop and lead to 'madness'. Therefore, 'madness' is a social product that arises here. However, the existence of 'mad people' was considered to destroy the social order. So it has not been able to float on the surface and has always been deleted. In Hwang Soon-won's post-war novels, the disabled try to show the destroyed bodies and inner sides of these 'mad people'. In particular, Hwang Soon-won's reproduced figures of the disabled were mirrors that reflected abnormal social structures. They perform 'madness' by being driven to tragic reality.

본고는 황순원의 전후 소설 가운데 불구자를 다루고 있는 작 품을 연구대상으로 선정해 그들의 ‘광기’에 주목했다. 이때의 ‘광 기’는 ‘비정상적 사회 구조’가 은폐하고자 했으나 은폐할 수 없었 던 것으로서 읽고자 했다. 사회는 정상성과 비정상성을 교차하므로 유동성을 지닌다. 정 상적 사회와 비정상적 사회의 틈에서 사회적 존재인 개인은 극 심한 혼란을 겪게 된다. 하지만 사회는 비정상성을 인정하지 않는다. 이 과정에서 사회구성원의 내적 갈등이 발전하여 ‘광기’로 이어진다. 따라서 ‘광기’는 정상과 비정상의 경계에서 발생한 사 회적 산물이다. 하지만 ‘광인’들의 존재는 사회 질서를 파괴한다고 간주되었 다. 그래서 표면에 부상하지 못하고 항상 삭제되어 왔다. 황순원 의 전후 소설에서 불구자들은 이러한 ‘광인’들의 파괴된 육체와 내면을 보여주려고 한다. 특히 황순원은 재현한 불구자들의 형상 은 비정상적인 사회 구조를 비추는 거울이었다. 그들은 비극적 현실에 내몰리게 됨으로써 ‘광기’를 수행하게 된다.
