Railroad stations and train users are related to each other by providing and using station service and convenience functions. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between railway station characteristics and the number of passengers. The subject of this study is 163 railway stations in the metropolitan area operated by Korea Railroad Corporation. The research model is a multiple regression model. The railway station characteristics are the independent variable, the number of passengers is the dependent variable, and 15 hypotheses were established and empirically analyzed. The results of this study showed that the characteristics of railway stations and the number of passengers were statistically significant. In detail, among the characteristics of railway stations, land use (industrial/residential/green land), land price (individually announced land price), total floor area, construction year (elapsed years), and complex station (neighborhood living facilities/complex station) were statistically significant and was a positive (+) influence. In other words, the relationship between railway stations and passengers was confirmed. In the future, railway institutions need a strategic plan to increase the number of passengers in the development and operation of railway stations in order to improve the railway management environment.

본 연구는 철도역과 열차 이용객이 역무기능과 편의기능을 제공하고 이용하는 상호 연 관성이 있으므로 철도역 특성이 이용객 수에 어떤 영향인 있는지 관계성을 연구하였다. 연구대상은 한국철도공사가 운영하는 수도권광역 철도역사 163개역이다, 연구모형은 다중회귀모형으로 철도역 특성이 독립변수이고 이용객 수가 종속변수이며, 15개의 가설을 설정하고 실증분석 하였다. 연구결과 철도역 특성과 이용객 수는 통계적으로 유의하였다. 철도역 특성 중 용도지 역(공업·주거·녹지)과 지가(개별공시지가), 연면적·건축년도(경과년수), 복합역사(근생역 사·복합역사)가 이용객 수에 통계적으로 유의하고 정(+)의 영향력이 있었다. 즉 철도역과 이용객의 관계성과 관련요소들이 확인 되었다. 향후 철도기관은 철도경영환경 개선을 위하여 철도역 개발과 운영시 이용객 수를 증대 할 수 있는 전략방안이 필요하고, 나아가 철도역의 자산가치적·수익적 관계성 등 철도경 영환경 개선과 관련 확장된 연구도 필요하다.
