초록

영어

The life and activities of Wolpageosa Jo Jung-gu. Jo Jung-gu (1860-1926) was a patriot who lived in the Korean Empire and Japanese colonial rule. He was the second son-in-law of Heungseon Daewongun and the brother-in-law of King Gojong. He is also an in-law of independence activist Lee Hoi-young. In such an environment, Jo Jung-gu was able to live his life comfortably with great power despite foreign interference and aggression, but foreign interference and the threat of Japanese imperialism did not allow him to live comfortably. As an official of the Gungnaebu, Jo Jung-gu did not hesitate to carry out the secret orders of King Gojong to restore the sovereignty of the Korean Empire as well as the royal administration. In 1903, Jo Jung-gu also participated in the compilation of Jeungbomoonheonbigo(增補文獻備考). This was done in 1769 by order of the king to examine the rapidly changing situation surrounding Joseon and respond to the change. Jo Jung-gu and his family were walking in the midst of a whirlwind of challenges and counterattacks such as the Hague Special Envoy Case in 1907 and Hanil Unification in 1910. Jo Nam-seung, son, delivered a credential to Hulbert, an American, asking him to withdraw King Gojong's slush funds, and hid 87 important diplomatic documents from Joseon at the time of King Gojong's orders. When Jo Jung-gu finally became annexed in 1910, he even attempted suicide, refusing the silver medal and baron title given to high-ranking officials of the Joseon Dynasty by the Government-General of Korea. “I would rather die righteously, but I cannot live dishonorably.” Afterwards, Jo Jung-gu fled to Beijing, China. After King Gojong's death in 1919, after completing his funeral, he was named on the list of 18 Pyeongjeonggwan(評政官) when he established the Hanseong Provisional Government. Although he was not an official patriotic movement, his desire for national independence and independence was stronger than anyone else's. Afterwards, he fled to China and wandered, but after hearing the news of the death of his second son, Nam-ik Jo, he died while living at Bongseon Temple. Shortly before his death, he published a document disapproving of the treaty of annexation of Sunjong, stating that the annexation of Treaty Korea and Japan was arbitrarily proclaimed by Japan and a group of evil spirits.
