This study explored cultural differences among Korean, U.S., and Japanese millennial generation. The results of survey data showed that the U.S. and Japan showed higher power distance orientation than Korea. Uncertainty avoidance was similar between the U.S. and Korea, and both countries were higher than Japan. Collectivism was the United States, Japan, and Korea in order. Long-term orientation was the United States, Korean, and Japan in order. The U.S. and Japan were found to be masculinity countries than Korea. Male showed higher scores on collectivism and masculinity, and gender has interaction effects with power distance, collectivism, and masculinity. These results implied that traditional cultural classification is no longer valid in current communication and marketing environments.

본 연구는 한국, 미국, 일본의 밀레니얼 세대를 대상으로 문화차원에서 어떠한 차이가 있는지 알아본 것이다. 설문조사를 통해 분석한 결과 호프스테드의 문화차원에서 차이를 보면 권력거리가 미국과 일본이 한국보다 높았다. 불확실성회피 성향은 미국과 한국이 유사한 것으로 나타났고 양국이 모두 일본보다 불확실성회피 성향이 높은 것으로 나타났 다. 집단주의는 미국이 가장 높고, 일본, 한국 순으로 차이를 보였다. 장기지향성은 미국 이 가장 높고, 한국, 일본 순이었다. 남성성은 미국과 일본이 한국보다 높은 것으로 나타 났다. 성별 효과는 권력거리, 집단주의와 남성성에서 남자가 높게 나타났고 권력거리, 집단주의, 남성성에서 국가와 상호작용 효과가 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 밀레니얼 세대에 있어서는 기존의 국가를 단위로 하는 문화차원 지수가 적용되기 힘들다는 것을 보여준다.
