Identity awareness has always been considered important in the spiritual life of Christians, but it is treated as one of the most important topics in contemporary Christian spirituality. A Christian's true self-awareness goes beyond psycho-social awareness, and is the awareness of identity in relationship with God, as Jesus experienced at his baptism as the Beloved of God. Henri Nouwen argues that the life of Jesus testifies to His relationship with the Father God rather than an invitation to believe in Him, and that such an intimate relationship with the Father is also given to each and Jesus draws each one into that intimate relationship. Each one's participation in communion with the Triune God through Christ is of crucial importance to the experience of identity awareness. Even before the experience of hearing the voice of God's love in Winnipeg decisively and firmly establishing his true identity, Nouwen taught people to live a life of faith with love as a priest and professor. However, in terms of spiritual growth and development, Nouwen fully returned to God while experiencing God's first love experience in Winnipeg, i.e., the experience of non-dual unity of love, and begins teaching with an integrated mind of Jesus. This article examines the influence of the first love experience of God experienced in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada by Henry Nouwen, a representative spiritual guide of the 20th century, on his identity awareness, and proposes the relationship between love experience for God and true identity. It consists in showing how identity awareness is given to us. The understanding of John the Cross will be used as a framework for the spiritual development structure that illuminates the relationship between God's first love experience and identity awareness.

정체성 인식은 현대 기독교인 영성에서 가장 중요한 주제 중의 하나로, 기독교 영 성 생활에서는 언제나 중요하게 다루어져 왔다. 그리스도인의 참된 자기 인식은 심리 사회적 인식을 넘어 예수께서 세례 시에 경험한 하나님의 사랑받는 자로서의 정체성 을 인식하신 것과 같이 하나님 안에 있는 존재로서의 진정한 자기 정체성을 인식하는 것이다. 헨리 나우웬은 성자 예수님의 삶은 당신을 믿으라는 권유라기보다 당신과 성부와 의 친밀한 관계성을 증언하고 이러한 친밀한 관계성이 모두에게 주어진 것을 알려주 며, 그 관계로 각자를 초대하는 것이라고 주장한다. 즉 그리스도를 통해 삼위일체 하 나님의 교제에 참여하는 것이 각자의 참된 자기 정체성 체험과 인식에 결정적으로 중 요하다는 것이다. 그런데 이런 확실하며 견고한 정체성 인식은 인생의 어느 한순간 단번에 이뤄지는 것이 아니라, 생의 전 과정을 통해 은총으로 주어진다. 나우웬은 위니펙의 경험 이전 에도 사제이자 교수로서 사람들에게 사랑으로 가르치는 사역자의 삶을 살아왔다. 그러나 영적 성장 발달적 차원에서 볼 때 그는 위니펙에서 영의 밤 가운데 하나님의 제 1 사랑을 체험하고, 하나님 안에 있는 존재로서의 정체성 인식이 확실하게 주어진 후, 통합적인 시각을 가지고 영혼의 중심에서 사랑으로 가르치는 삶을 살기를 시작한다. 본 논문은 20세기의 대표적인 영적 안내자 헨리 나우웬이 캐나다 마니토바 위니펙 에서 영의 밤 가운데 경험한 하나님 제1 사랑체험이 그의 정체성 인식에 미친 영향을 고찰하여 하나님 제1 사랑체험과 진정한 자기 정체성 인식의 긴밀한 관계를 제시함으 로 참된 정체성 인식이 어떻게 각자에게 주어지는지를 보이고자 한다. 하나님 제1 사 랑체험과 정체성 인식의 관계를 조명하는 영적 발달 이해 구조의 틀로는 십자가 요한 의 하나님과의 연합, 영적 결혼에 이르는 발달 단계, 그리고 네 개의 밤에 대한 이해 를 사용할 것이다.
