This study focuses on the missionary ideas of Pastor Chi Yil Pang, who laid the foundation for Korean missionary work in the 19th century. Chi Yil Pang is one of the missionaries who have been faithful to God's mission with His training given to him. After 28 years since the gospel was first introduced to Korea and presbytery was established, it was significantly meaningful and unique that different cultural mission started by the denomination in the world missionary work. Shandong area, a particular dispatching area in China, served as an opportunity to set new milestones for Korean missions. Pastor Chi Yil Pang fully practiced God's missionary work by carrying his faith in the truth of Bible, and showing a respectable example of a missionary by accompanying with God during hardships and adversities in his life. Furthermore, he thoroughly emptied the missionary's superiority or self-centered attitude, and practiced konvivent mission in the culture and life with the local people. Through a life of humility, he showed an example of life of learning and respect. By studying Pastor Chi Yil Pang's love for God and his mission ideas, the Korean churches should break away from materialism, success-oriented, and merit-oriented missions and pursue the truth of the Bible to practice God's complete mission. Learning the true nature of mission and practicing the ecumenical spirit through cooperation and unity will be essential to Korean Churches.

본 연구는 19세기 한국선교의 기초를 놓았던 방지일 목사의 선교사상 을 통해 한국 타문화 선교를 새롭게 조명해 본다. 방지일은 하나님께서 세 우신 하나님의 선교적 백성으로 그에게 주어진 연수를 따라 하나님의 선교 를 위해 충성을 다한 하나님의 사람이다. 한국 최초 독노회가 세워지고 한 국에 복음이 전해진 지 28년 만에 교단 차원에서 타문화선교를 시작하였다 는 것은 세계선교에서 독보적인 일이다. 특별히 그 파송 지역이 중국의 산 동지역이라는 점은 한국 선교에 새로운 이정표를 세우는 계기가 되었다. 방지일 목사는 확고한 성경의 진리에 메여 하나님의 선교를 온전히 실천했 으며, 고난과 역경 중에도 하나님 앞에서, 하나님과 동행하는 선교사의 본 을 보여주었다. 또한 철저하게 선교사의 우월감이나 자기중심적인 자세를 비우고 현지인들의 문화와 삶 속에서 콘비벤츠 선교를 실천했다. 나아가 겸양의 삶을 통해 배움과 존중의 삶의 본을 보였다. 한국 교회는 방지일 목사의 하나님 사랑과 그의 선교 사상들을 배움으 로 물량주의, 성공지향주의, 성과위주의 선교에서 벗어나 진정한 콘비벤츠 를 지향하고, 성경의 진리를 좇아 현장 중심의 사역을 통해 하나님의 온전 한 선교를 실천해야 한다. 선교의 진정한 본질을 배우고 협력과 일치를 통 한 에큐메니칼 정신을 실천해야 할 것이다
