This study has examined ‘-naides’ form of Japanese verbs which is frequently used, even though it is non-normative expression. Description through ‘-naides’ form of verbs conveys negative proposition, briefly speaking, it performs the function of conveying fact. Unlike ‘-masen’ form, ‘-naides’ form of verbs cannot express volition, because it performs only the function of conveying fact, and accordingly, it is mainly used for description, rather than expressing volition or invitation. ‘-Naides’ form of verbs, which conveys negative proposition simply as fact, gives feelings of kindness, mildness, and familiarity, when compared to ‘-masen’ form, which is the expression of emphatic negation. This is why ‘-naides’ form of verbs is frequently used in daily life. Though ‘naides’ form of verbs is frequently used in daily life, how to teach it is a matter of contemplation. However, when taken into consideration the fact that, in daily life, there are many Japanese who think that ‘-masen’ form is somewhat stiff, it is believed that there is a need to refer to ‘-naides’ form at least in teaching conversation. It is also necessary to teach the learners who are already using it the fact that the acceptable level of ‘-naides’ form of verbs is low, in case there is a need to use literary style or to be formal, and that ‘-naides’ form of verbs cannot be used when expressing volition or invitation.

본고에서는 비규범적인 형태로 간주됨에도 불구하고 자주 사용되는 일본어 동사의 ‘~ない です’라는 형식에 주목하여 선행 연구에서 지적된 ‘~ないです’의 서술 기능에 대하여 고찰하 고, ‘~ないです’에 의한 서술은 ‘~하지 않는다’고 하는 사실을 전달하는 ‘부정 명제의 단순 전 달’, 즉 ‘사실의 단순 전달’ 기능을 지님을 논하였다. 사실을 전달하는 서술 기능만을 가지기 때문에 ‘~ないです’는 ‘~ません’과 달리 의지를 나타낼 수는 없으며, 따라서 의지나 권유를 나타내는 경우보다는 서술의 경우에 주로 사용된다. 부정 명제를 단순히 사실로서 전달하는 동사의 ‘~ないです’는 정중하지만 부정형으로 종지 하는 형태로 강한 부정을 나타내는 ‘~ません’에 비하여 부드러움과 친근감을 느끼게 하며, 일 상생활에서 동사의 ‘~ないです’의 사용 빈도가 높은 것은 이러한 특성에 기인한다. 높은 사용 빈도에도 불구하고 교육 현장에서 동사의 ‘~ないです’를 어떻게 다루어야 할지 는 생각해 보아야 할 문제이다. 하지만 실제 사용 빈도를 고려한다면 적어도 회화 지도에 있 어서는 ‘~ないです’에 대하여 언급해 둘 필요가 있으며, 이미 사용하고 있는 학습자들에게는 문장어 및 격식을 차려야 하는 경우에는 허용도가 낮다고 하는 사실, 그리고 의지나 권유를 나타내는 경우에는 사용할 수 없다고 하는 사실을 지도할 필요가 있다고 생각된다.
