The purpose of this article is to briefly review the existing research achievements on the phonological system of the ancient Korean language and to present a research prospect focusing on the process and method of establishing the phonological system of the ancient Korean language. For this purpose, only discussions directly related to the phonological system are considered. If the phonological system is the totality of phonological oppositions in a language, and if it is a discussion related to the phonological system of the ancient Korean language, then the phonological opposition should be explicitly confirmed in the results of the study. In other words, it is necessary to carefully apply a series of processes or methods to distinguish a phoneme from a phoneme, to list a phonemic list, and to establish a phonemic system based on this. In addition, the discussion of the relevance of the phonological system of the local language in the present day will be a process of revealing the future utility method and value of the research results of the phonological system of the ancient Korean language.

이 글은 고대 국어 음운 체계에 대한 기존의 연구 성과를 간략히 살펴보고 고대 국 어 음운 체계의 수립 과정과 방법을 중심으로 연구 전망을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 음운 체계를 직접적으로 다룬 논의만을 대상으로 삼았다. 음운 체 계가 어떤 언어에 있어서 음운론적 대립의 총체라고 한다면, 그리고 고대 국어의 음 운 체계 관련 논의라면, 연구 결과에서는 음운 대립이 명시적으로 제시되어야 할 것 이다. 즉, 음성과 음운을 구별하여 음운 목록을 나열하고, 이를 바탕으로 음운 체계를 수립하는 일련의 과정이나 방법의 세밀한 적용이 필요하다. 또한 현대의 해당 지역어 음운 체계와의 관련성 논의는 고대 국어 음운 체계의 연구 결과에 대한 앞으로의 효 용 방법과 그 가치를 밝히는 중요한 토대가 될 것이다.
